So here is a sneak peek into a Farmhouse Kitchen Postbox! Best yet, it is totally budget friendly and super do-able. If you want to see everything that comes in each custom Postbox, check it out HERE:
A kitchen remodel. Wow. That sounds expensive. In fact, it is usually the most expensive room in your home to remodel. But with good reason: it is the heart of your home. It is one of the first things buyers look for in a house. It has so many family memories wrapped up in it. In my house, I feel like we live in the kitchen. In fact, this weekend a friend and I were laughing because we realized we both keep a kitchen drawer full of hair supplies, toothbrushes, etc. in there. We just plain spend a lot of time in our kitchen. So why not LOVE your kitchen?!
This is an example of a High-Low Kitchen. If this shocks you, more than half of it came from Home Depot. That’s right. Add in some Target accessories and you have the budget friendly “low” part of the design. If you know where to look, you can find some amazing goodies.
But sometimes to make a KILLER design you have to add in a splurge or two.
That is where you get the “high” part of the design. Sprinkled in this kitchen and breakfast nook design are some high end pieces that add some “wow” to the space. But guess what? Even if one item is out of your budget, I happen to be really good at finding the less expensive version of it. Wink, wink!
As a trained kitchen and bath designer, I have told my clients, it is important to know where to spend the majority of your budget, and where to scrimp. In a kitchen, my top three places to spend your money on a kitchen or bath remodel:
Cabinets
Countertops
Faucets
Why is that? First of all, you are hard on your cabinets. You open them a dozen times a day, your kids climb them to get to the candy stash (what, no one else’s kids do that?), etc. Same with those tops, they get a lot of use and abuse. Plus, they are the hardest and most expensive items to replace. I also recommend buying a quality faucet when your budget allows.
So where can you save some pennies? With so many choices out there, here are my favorite ways to spend less:
Cabinet hardware
Lighting
Backsplash
Accessories
Sinks
My experience has shown me that the “big box” stores carry an amazing selection of these products, with a great price tag and good quality. Think about it, once you hang your light fixture, you don’t really touch it much, do you? Same with your backsplash. With the kitchen sink, unless you are looking for a top-of-the-line model or really want it to be your focal point, they mostly all offer the same qualities. Plus, these are all easier items to replace later to update your look.
I included a Bonus DIY idea for creating a high-end custom island look for less, with a little DIY magic! I suggested using off-the-shelf simple Shaker style cabinets. Then paint the cabinets with this deep, sophisticated navy blue. Dress up with some gold geometric pulls, and then add flat gold L-brackets in the outside corners. Butcher block is a very inexpensive way to top this island! I included the above pictorial directions in with the Postbox:
And what about the perfect Farmhouse Kitchen nook? Whether you need a table, or a custom banquette, carry on the rustic loving into the eat-in area or dining room:
For each Postbox client, I create their Mood Boards, but also a custom perspective drawing of what it would look like in their actual space. My favorite part of this breakfast nook? I am LOVING the foodie art poster. Why not have some fun with your food? I am actually thinking of getting a copy for my own breakfast room. I think the kiddos would love eating their pasta in front of the pasta poster (okay, I would too!)
Recently a client told me one of her favorite parts of her Postbox was the “Notes” section. For each space, I include one of these, detailing how to use your selections, bonus tips, arranging ideas, and more. It is like the directions that come with your box! This one has a fun DIY bonus project to it.
My own kitchen is on my “short list” of spaces to remodel. While I wasn’t designing this space for me, I am seriously tempted to steal a couple of ideas. I hope you do too! Need a kitchen remodel? I offer a FINISHES ONLY package for rooms such as kitchens, baths, laundry rooms, mudrooms, and more. I help you choose all of your fixtures and finishes. And because some things you just need to touch and feel, I send you actual samples of your materials. Check out how the whole process works HERE
Can you imagine opening your kitchen in a box? Best day E-V-E-R!

Hi,
Can you share the source for #2 table? Love it!
PostboxDesigns says
Hi Sunny! I love that table too! The bad news is I just checked and it is no longer available from the original source, it is called the “Rustic Tulip Table”, originally from Dot&Bo. I found a similar one: https://www.lexmod.com/dining/dining-tables/drive-47-oval-wood-top-dining-table-in-brown/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=EEI-2009-BRN-SET&utm_content=Drive&utm_term=Dining+Table&newparamter=newrecrawl&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5bmB09LL2QIVjITICh2UoQXKEAkYAiABEgJTqfD_BwE
Hope that helps! Cheers, Kristin
