Happy Monday! In my house, today is a NO SCHOOL day: mid-winter break they call it. I love the extra time with my kiddos but they get these crazy “no school” personalities…extra goofy and extra crazy. It is like they can sense that Mom wants to keep a schedule and they want NOTHING to do with it. So, I asked them what they wanted to do today, and my oldest told me she wanted to have a “dinner party”. Okay. So ours may be a combo of cupcakes, Chex cereal, juice boxes, and cheese sticks. We are using leftover Valentine’s Day plates, but you may want your next dinner party to be something fancier.
So welcome to this week’s Designer Math Monday: Table Settings
Oh, and one last thing: yes it may be “mid-winter break” but that only means we are mid-way to spring (right?), so in honor of spring just around the corner, this is a spring-inspired table setting, so put away the heavy stuff and bring out some newbies that remind you of flowers, baby bunnies, and all things warm and delicious!
Runner Centerpiece Napkins Plates Bowls Flatware
RUNNER + CENTERPIECE + CLOTH NAPKINS + SCALLOP PLATES + FOOTED BOWLS + GOLD FLATEWARE = WHIMSICAL SPRING TABLE SETTING
RUNNER: This is an Etsy beauty: the grainsack look has been around forever because, well, it is a classic. You can get this in almost any accent color
CENTERPIECE: Check out the awesome step-by-step tutorial at: Shanty 2 Chic. Wood + glue+nails+stain=finished product. It really is that easy. She even has photos. But what I love about this centerpiece, is you can switch out what is inside this rustic box whenever you need a change-up for the season. I personally love these sweet mini vases filled with sprigs of spring flowers.
NAPKINS: Two years ago we switched almost entirely to cloth napkins. To save money, I simply surged the edges of fun, inexpensive fabric from JoAnn’s (with the help of my fab mother-in-law). I was a little nervous about how they would hold up…like a champ! And my family is not known for their gentleness. So save a tree and feel fancy by using cloth. If you are NOT a natural seamstress, here are some adorb pre-made ones. I like the modern, neutral pattern
SCALLOP PLATES: So I’m a total sucker for a scalloped plate. They have so much more personality than a standard round plate. And these beauties are only $5/each from Target. Score!
FOOTED BOWL: Want to feel Fancy Nancy fancy? (Sorry, I read this book five times last night to my four-year-old, she’s on my mind). These footed bowls make even canned soup feel fancy. And they clock in at only $7/each. I would literally plan my meals so I would have an excuse to use these!
GOLD FLATWARE: Gold is having it’s hey day right now. These are dishwasher safe AND are from my beloved Anthropologie. That’s two wins in my book.
My daughter just told me she loved the “pretty bowls”. What’s your favorite? Any other ideas for a spring inspired table setting? I would love to hear your comments here or on Facebook!
