PAINT. This is hands down my favorite DIY project around my house! It is one of the most cost effective ways to get something amazing from something you already own. This is also practically what Craigslist was made for: finding something with those infamous “good bones” but in serious need to be prettied up. Youtube and Pinterest are chock full of painting tutorials, so if you need some tips, start there. But I’ll tell you the honest truth…I have never sanded a piece of furniture EVER and I rarely even prime it (I know, gasp!). Expert painters are probably calling that blasphemy, but I’m an instant gratification type of girl. I buy the paint+primer in one and go to work (or I’ve been known to skip priming all together)!
These are some more involved ideas, but simply painting a piece of furniture in a single new color can really make it shine. Feel free to go bold and crazy: Turquoise! Apple red! Deep plum! The worst thing that can happen is you hate it, and try a new color.

If you are feeling a little unsure about your painting skills, try one of my favorite looks: the “distressed” piece. It is supposed to look old and imperfect, so you truly can’t mess this one up! If you want to learn more about this style, stay tuned for Day 19, where I show you how I distressed all of my kitchen cabinets.
Or here is a new technique that I have never tried, but it sounds interesting! If you try it, let me know how it goes:
Here is some eye candy to get you started, but check out my Pinterest page for even more ideas. Or follow me on Facebook, where I will share all 30 Days!
Get on those paint clothes and get to work!
