Welcome to Day 16 of the 30 Day Design Make-over! So, if you remember all the way back to Day 1, I gave you some ideas on how to create a mini Drop Center.
Now boys and girls it is time to take off your floaties and jump into the deep end…today we are taking it all the way into a full blown Command Center!
I feel like the term “Command Center” is very 2015…I mean honestly, five years ago the term Command Center would make you think of NASA. But some brilliant mom I’m sure coined the term of the area every family needs that corrals life. Your command center will become the heart of your family organization.
I recently created one of these in my mudroom and it is truly one of my favorite 4’ of space in our whole house! It houses everything from our recycling, family mailboxes, family calendar, charging station, mail supplies, and homework center. Wow-that is a LOT of stuff in a small space!

The key is to make some wise choices when it comes to organizing. A lot of stuff is going on here. Make sure each piece works hard for you. I have seen some ADORABLE Command Centers that feature a cutesy blackboard, but when it came to my house, I had to think through, and decided that we wouldn’t really use that. Instead I filled our wall with mailboxes and a bulletin board (to house all of our field trip notes, party invites, etc.). Yes, I do have it all in my phone, but sometimes Mama needs a back-up!
So here is one way to create your own Command Center at home:
Check out the original post I made about this Command Center here, it was part of my Designer Math Mondays series (check it out on my Facebook page and here on my blog every Monday!). It has all of the sources and descriptions of why each item works: check out some Designer Math!
