Neutral is having it’s moment right now. For the last few years everything has been about the grays and the grieges, and the barely there colors. Me? I’m a fan! If you go neutral in the background, you have the chance to do almost anything with your furniture and accessories.
As I have mentioned before, painting is my #1 tool for a quick, inexpensive makeover. No other way will $50 change a room instantly. So I am officially challenging you RIGHT now: pick a room and paint it this week. You can do it! Try one of these neutrals I have listed. Most painters will suggest eggshell for a wall finish. I am a BIG fan of the ceramic finish or sometimes it is called “washable” if you have children. I tried this type for the first time when we moved into our home three years ago. It does cost a little bit more but it is worth every.single.penny. I can’t tell you how many times I have washed the walls in my kitchen (oatmeal on the wall…again?!) or wiped off smudgy fingerprints in my hallways (what ARE they doing in there?!). Try one and let me know what you think!

Paint colors can be harder to select than you would think. Often that is one of the things my clients have me help them choose (in fact I was looking through dozens of paint samples to find the perfect “white” with a client just yesterday!). Here is a Postbox I did with a neutral wall colors:
A modern Living Room with a fresh, airy take. I kept the colors light and airy, and worked a lot with texture and subtle pattern instead of bold colors.
And a farmhouse style Dining Room with mixes of light woods, whites, and a neutral wall color:
Here’s a modern home office with soft wall whites to let the industrial elements shine:
