Today I’m back for another Room Design Challenge! My last one was this winter when I created an entire living room from WalMart furnishings only (hey, I’m orignally a Hoosier, you made sure you put on mascara before going in because you always did run into someone you knew!)… Check it out HERE and see how I furnished the entire room for just $1265.02. But today I’m going to tackle another room in the house for a challenge: The Home Office. Just recently I revamped my hallway to create a Triple Kid’s Homework Area for my little ones, and now I have an office space on the brain!
So I started off by designing a dream home office grounded in neutral pieces but blinged up with a bit of gold glam. Industrial with a girly twist. Even in my “splurge” office there are still some great pieces that would work in your project: $5 artwork and a rug under $250? Still totally do-able!
I started by painting the walls a neutral warm gray and then added in a simple, clean-lined desk from West Elm. A graphic rug brings in some pattern, and I’m in love with these gorgeous shelves from Restoration Hardware. Don’t you just love that ladder? I glammed it up with a gold chair, some gold desk accessories and I love the simplicity of this white and gold pendant light. I couldn’t resist adding a work themed printable to the mix. Got to stay inspired!

I love this look, but I thought I could do better. This office is just as pretty but SIX TIMES LESS THE COST! Check out all of the details that make this home office space work on a fraction of the budget:
The biggest cost savings was to swap out bookshelves. Both have an industrial style with a “X” back, but this version keeps a lot in the bank. A striped rug still stays in the space and the price is right at $199. Another huge cost savings was this desk-it has a similar look to the West Elm one, but this is a Target beauty instead. This gold lattice pendant is less than $100 and brings in just as much gold polish as the first version. And of course, a motivational poster rounds up the space.
