Coastal Casual Family Room Design
If you have been hanging out with me for awhile, you will know I was jumping out of my pants excited when Remodelaholic (one of the most amazing websites around for home designs and DIY ideas!) asked me to partner up with them and contribute monthly with Mood Boards and design ideas for their readers. Um, yes please!
If you missed them, check out some past posts, like my Industrial Style Laundry Room where I designed a mini make-over laundry (no power tools or remodeling needed!), Kitchen Makeover Entirely from Home Depot (in a pretty cottage style), and High-Low Farmhouse Dining Room where I re-created a high-end Dining Room for a third of the cost as the original. All are cost effective and easy for ANYONE to implement. Pinky promise.
But this month I wanted to tackle the family room.
I always joked that I wanted a house with so many windows that I wouldn’t know where to put the furniture. True, I cannot get enough of windows streaming in with natural light, but it does pose a problem. There are a LOT of floor plans out there that have little to no wall space. It could be because the room is filled up with windows or doorways, leaving no place for furniture on the wall. Or, because of the popularity of the open floor plan, many of you have open spaces with little actual wall space.
So how do you furnish a room with little or no wall space?
With a few tricks, that is how!
Here is simply one way to do it. In this floor plan, we got a bit of everything: windows, doors, open spaces, you name it! So how to you create a comfy cozy area when you have no place to put the sofa? Check out the full article at Remodelaholic where I give you my tips and suggestions for floating furniture and the best layouts for these rooms. Plus with summer here, I wanted to show a coastal casual theme for this living space, chock full of low maintenance, nice-on-the-wallet finds!

And I wanted to show the Remodelaholic readers a taste of what you guys already see on Postbox Designs all the time when I show you Real Postbox Projects! I always create a Floor Plan and Mood Board for my clients (like above), but how do you REALLY know what it is going to look like in your own space? I mean, Mood Boards are meant to inspire, but I want to know if it will work for ME. So I always draw up my clients real life space on 3D software and simply show them what their room will look like with every single item from their Mood Board in it. Short of buying every item, trying it out first, then returning what you don’t like (um, how fun does THAT sound?), this is as close as you can get to seeing before buying!
So check out what this open room wall-less wonder looks like all decked out with this coastal vibe:
Yep, I think I could live there! P.S. I’m a Michigan girl, so I found real artwork from two of my favorite beaches along coastal Michigan-these would make me feel right at home!
Check out the full article HERE to get all of the details, see TONS more inspirational photos, and get oodles of tips on how to decorate your own open floor concept room!
In the meantime, I’m always having fun over on Facebook where I’m sharing real projects and free design tips, and over on Instagram (where you get to see sneak peeks into ma casa!), and of course Pinterest where you can find loads more open concept rooms on my Family Room Board.
