A few months back I challenged myself to design an entire living room just from furnishings I could find from Walmart. I’m a Hoosier born and raised and Walmart was THE place to buy everything from snacks to toiletries to shoes. But lately Walmart has been rockin the home décor look too! I had to admit it had been awhile since I had been to a Walmart (I’m now in Michigan and this is Meijer country people), but I started browsing their website and was shocked by all of the cutey cute stuff I found.
Just as a refresh, here was my $1265.02 Walmart Challenge Living Room:
This roomful of neutral elements with subtle patterns would work in any home, and this price tag can’t be beat. Want to see what this would look like in an actual room?

So let’s try Round 2 now!
So I was wondering if Walmart could come through for me again, this time doing a Walmart-only makeover for the bedroom. You could absolutely use this look for a Master Bedroom, but I chose to do a Guest Bedroom, because while I love all of these pops of bright, juicy colors, I prefer something a little more neutral for my own slumber. This fun, bright look would also rock for a teen’s or kid’s bedroom too.
BEDDING: I instantly fell in love with the bright colors in their Jacquard bedding, and pieces start at just $9.99! This bedding is a queen size comes in at just under $50. There are so many great choices for bedding out there, and you truly don’t have to spend a fortune to make your bed as happy as it makes you.
HEADBOARD: One idea to save money, is to keep your standard metal bed frame, and just dress it up with a new headboard (as opposed to buying a whole new bed). I’ve been in love with upholstered headboards for a loooong time. My favorite father-in-law helped me build mine, but you can snag this upholstered wingback beauty for a shocking $90 (what?!). Gorgeous!
SIDE TABLE: Nightstands are a must for me. I’m the kind of girl who lets her nightstand collect water glasses for six nights in a row before finally clearing it off. Not only do they corral all of your odds and ends, but it just gives you room a more balanced, completed look. I’m a symmetry type of girl, so I would pop in two identical ones (but feel free to mix and match!). These bright yellow side tables are only $66 so you wouldn’t even have to blink when you throw two into your cart. Since they are so light and airy, they would work well in a small bedroom-bonus!
DRESSER: Speaking of storage, it’s always nice to have a dresser not only for extra storage, but it’s one more place you can add some flair. Lean an oversized print against it, or form a gallery wall with 9-12 smaller prints. Or for a kid’s room, showcase their collection in a series of shadowboxes.
ARTWORK: For this bedroom, I found this $10 Etsy print (my only item NOT from WalMart). I would blow up an oversized print of it, and frame it in a large white frame right over this dresser.
RUG: This 3’-6” x 5’-6” navy blue striped rug (at only $114) adds a final pop of color and simple pattern to this fun-loving room. It would soften up the space if you had wood floors, or gives some pizazz to plain carpet. Best yet, it is an easy piece to change out for a whole new look, since you are just spending just $100!
SCONCE: Lighting is a big deal in a bedroom. Who has a hubby who is a night owl when you are an early to bed type of girl? Or you love to stay up and read while your significant other would rather slumber? You can use a bedside lamp. OR to give an ultra custom look, try installing a sconce on either side of your bed. Put them on a dimmer switch to show your other half some lovin. Plus they are just pretty, even when they are turned off! Each sconce is a steal at $101….totally on clearance right now people!
So there you go! Beauty can ge had at any budget-high or low.
