Last week was the first official week of fall, which here in Michigan is like our prime season-it is the reason why we stay for these long winters. My little fam went apple picking and ran through a cornmaze this weekend, and a hayride to the pumpkin patch is on the calendar for next week. So in my house, it’s time to switch out the bright colors of summer, with some more muted, warm tones for this gorgeous time of year. So whether you want to go big, or just add an item or two for the transition, check out my Five Decorating Trends to Try this Fall:
Maybe I’ve been watching too much Gilmore Girls on Netflix lately, but warm and cozy flannel has been on my mind for this fall (thanks Luke). Take this material up to trend status by keeping it simple and understated. I love this plaid flannel throw that has just two colors-ivory and black. Try it in a throw pillow or even more swoon-worthy-in a rug. Plus, it transitions right over to the winter months as well. Go ahead, light a fire, and curl up with a good book.
Neutral graphic prints work all year round, but there is something fall worthy about this black and white rug from West Elm. In the fall, we tend to run to warm colors-rusts, oranges, reds, and browns as those tree leaves turn the same colors. In this room, the warm honey-hued woods pair up great with this print.
Rose gold is the hottest metal right now, and it is the perfect shade for fall. Remember all of those warm colors from Trend #2? So pull out the warm metals: coppers, bronzes, and the golds. If you are afraid to go full force, try something little like a light fixture, a coffee table accessory, or even glam up a piece of furniture with new rose gold hardware. Plus this room is rocking my fall trend #5 too (stay tuned below…)

Decorate with nature…in a non cheesy way. I’m a huge fan of decorating with what I can find in my backyard, and fall is the perfect time for scavenging-branches, acorns, leaves, bittersweet, moss…I love this tone-on-tone family room where she used loads of white pumpkins for fall flavor. It’s understated but perfect for the season. So grab a scarf and find the perfect perfect pumpkin patch-it’s all in the name of decorating!
And the entire reason I can make it through this chilly weather is because of objects like these-this thick, chunky cable knit blanket. I don’t think I would ever come out of my bedroom if I had this to wrap up in with my morning cup of coffee. Grab one for every room of the house-welcome to fall! I can’t think of a more inviting way to dress up my bed, or sofa, or armchair…
