Welcome back to Week #2 of the One Room Challenge! It is a biannual six week Challenge where anyone can participate in making over a room in their home. I decided to tackle our not-so-beloved bathroom. It was my dirty little secret that I was always dreading showing off on the home tour. If you want to see all of the details of the “Befores” (which I highly suggest! It will make you grateful for your own bathroom I’m sure), check it all out HERE!
Just to remind you of what we started with:
This was the type of space where the whole thing needed to be scrapped. No cutsie little updates was going to work in this space. But also (like many of us) we were on a budget. I wanted to makeover this space for just a few thousand dollars, not tens of thousands. But first I needed to start with some inspiration. I knew the look I wanted, but needed some ideas of how to pull it all together.
So to start off, I turned to Pinterest (Isn’t it just the best?!). My hubby jokes I should have Pinterest-elbow by now. So if you like any of these looks, just jump on over to my Pinterest page and save them for yourself. For this space, I wanted a sophisticated, neutral look, but still had a fun vibe to it. Grays, creams, and loads of polished nickel were musts. Plus I’ve been drooling over that marble hex tile for a couple of years now, so that one was a no-brainer.
I love the idea of doing two sconces on either side of the mirror. Plus who doesn’t love white subway tile?
I literally want to take home these mirrors and adopt them. How gorgeous! Plus that graphic wallpaper….

I love the traditional style, but I always need to have a bit of farmhouse/cottage charm to each space. I’m digging this bath makeover:
Painted cabinets, light marble tops, and unique mirrors…all must-have in the new space:
Scout and Nimble
So that’s my inspiration. Now I had to pull it all together into my own version of traditional-meets-cottage-meets-farmhouse-meets-“gotta stay in budget”. For all of my own Postbox Designs clients I always start by making a Mood Board-it is such a great way of putting all of the different elements together on one page. Gotta make sure you love it digitally before committing to buying it all!
Just click on the number of the item below and it will take you right to the source so you can have it for your very own:
I have been drooling over these tiles for years now, and I was thrilled to find these marble hex 3″ tiles at less than $10/SF! http://www.stonecenteronline.com/carrara-white-marble-3-hexagon-mosaic-tile-honed
I have been fully obsessed with polished nickel for awhile now. To upgrade plumbing fixtures to this finish is pretty pricey, so if you love this look too, stick to it in items such as cabinet hardware, accessories, and light fixtures-where they tend to be the same price as other finishes. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Liberty-1-1-5-in-Polished-Nickel-Round-Elegant-Cabinet-Knob-P32942C-PN-CP/206050430
THREE: Like so many of you, I love the look of Cararra marble, but with three kids using this bathroom, I didn’t want to deal with the maintenance. So I selected this quartz product called “Cirrus” that gives the same lovely look, but with a much simpler cleaning routine.
FOUR: I am going to remove our hideous green light fixture and replace it with TWO sconces, to flank our mirror. I selected these uber traditional elongated polished nickel sconces.
FIVE: Fun news: I’m keeping the existing vanity! I’m going to give it a much needed makeover with Annie Sloan “Paris Grey” Chalk Paint (stay tuned for a tutorial)
SIX: I’m pairing up this polished nickel hardware for the drawers with the coordinating pulls (#2) for the doors. I think it is sophisticated but has a masculine vibe due to the shape and are less than $4 each.
SEVEN: A few months ago I was thrilled to learn I had won the Delta MessMakers competition, and as part of the Grand Prize, I got to choose free plumbing fixtures (every designer’s dream). So I did luck out that I had a brand new (free) Delta faucet, toilet, and shower fixtures. This faucet is the “Delta Victorian” in polished chrome.
EIGHT: I had actually found this mirror for a client (see her whole bathroom “Fancy Pants Powder Room” makeover HERE ) and totally stole the idea of this rustic scalloped mirror for this room. It is a great mix of feminine (scalloped shape) and masculine (a distressed, iron finish), so it works great in a space where males and females need to share a space.
Finally, this room needed a fun feel to it since our three kiddos will be using it. I loved this Etsy “Good Vibes Only” print as a reminder for good attitudes as we all get ready for the school day! Plus at $2 it was a steal!
So while today I’m showing you all of the pretty stuff I pre-ordered, the messy stuff is happening too. Demo has begun and I can’t wait to show you all of the photos as my hubby and I tore out that bathroom from top to bottom!
I would love for you to hang with me during the whole six week journey, so sign up for my newsletter HERE (plus this is where I share all of my readers-only Postbox discounts and offers!) or I’ll be posting peeks over at Facebook and Pinterest. Or my personal fav-I’ll be showing behind-the-scenes pics over on Instagram! But my readers get the see the FIRST glimpses of everything right here-even before it is linked up to the official One Room Challenge site!
Get out the hammers and the safety googles-that tile is going bye-bye!

Hi. Love your mood board, especially the cabinet hardware and mirrors. Unfortunately there don’t seem to be any links to the sources. Would love to find those. Thanks!

I’m so sorry…I’ve been having some major tech issues with linking the sources for some reason! I’ll keep working on it, but I can email you the links in the meantime!
