It’s here! The invasion of the marble has arrived! Okay, Welcome back to Week #5 of the One Room Challenge, the six week room makeover #5 brought with it huge expanses of beautiful marble. And I couldn’t be happier. From the very beginning of this project the only item I knew I wanted for sure, were these beautiful marble hex tiles for the floor. In fact, I based the rest of the room around it. To recap, here is my Mood Board that I shared back on Week #2:
The marble tile was the starting point, and I built a neutral toned space that hopefully balances sophisticated with rustic charm. So here it is finally installed:
We will be grouting it with a soft gray grout. Now, for any of your who are wanting to use marble tile in your home as well, please keep in mind, marble is a porous material, and it should be SEALED before use! It is a super, duper easy process. It took me less than 10 minutes of actual work time. You can buy a container of sealer at any hardware store, and then you rub the liquid into the tile with a cloth. You buff off the excess, and then do it all again. I let mine dry about 20 minutes in between. And then it was done!
Last week I showed you my whole Annie Sloan Chalk Paint makeover for my vanity. What I didn’t show you was the other ways I updated it. As I have confessed before:
I have a major love affair with polished nickel.
It is so classy and elegant, and just plain pretty. I love, love, love it. So I was on the hunt to find polished nickel hardware and found both of these pieces from Home Depot, at less than $4 each! The shape has a masculine edge to them, but the finish keeps them girly and pretty:
Here they are installed on the newly finished Paris Grey Chalk Paint vanity:
And one more shot. I like the way the polished look is balanced with the distressed finish of the cabinet:
And are we ready for even MORE marble?! Well, truth be told, this one isn’t the real thing. I’ve been a kitchen and bath designer for over a decade, and as much as I love Cararra marble, I do steer all of my clients away from using real marble in a kitchen or bath. It is porous, so it can stain. But I’m not the only one who was in such a pickle, and recently quartz companies have responded to our love for marble. There are a dozen choices, but this one is called “Cirrus”, it it meant to mimic Cararra marble, but it is actually a quartz product-so very little maintenance needed!
You might notice another little update-our new faucet is in! A few months ago I was thrilled to announce I was selected as the Grand Prize Winner in the Delta MessMakers contest (woohool!). My prize was I got to pick out a whole selection of Delta products-any designer’s dream! As part of the package, I selected this Delta Victorian faucet in polished chrome, and the matching shower trim, plus a shiny new white toilet! (Any Mom knows my excitement of a brand new toilet that no child practiced their toilet training skills on!)
And I tacked up my mirror (temporarily) so you could get a sneak peek at where I’m going with this thing!
I did have one more thing to share with you today. I wanted to bring some bling to the bathroom, and came up with this easy-breezy little vase tutorial. Now, this isn’t some fancy-paints, uber-creative Pinterest woozer. In fact, the beauty of it: it is super easy and super inexpensive. Plus it is going to take you a grand total of five minutes to make!
I started off with a vase from the Dollar Store ($1) and a can of Rust-Oleum Gold Metallic Finish Spray Paint ($3.99):
Remember last week when I told you I was a lazy painter? I am also notorious for just “using what I have” around the house, instead of always using the best tools for the project. So if you have real painters tape (you know-the blue kind), it will work better than this. But I used what I had. So I taped off the top half of the vase:
Then add two coats of the gold spray paint. I told you: a pretty un-fancy, two step process. Then I peeled off the painters tape and was left with a two toned gold vase.
So here it is-the finished product! Five dollars, three minutes, and my first grader could have done this mini project. Just a little something to help spruce up the space!
So you’ve seen little bits and pieces of my bathroom, but next week is the BIG REVEAL!!! There are always last minute touch-ups (this project is no exception), but next week I’ll be ready to show you the final look! We have come so far in just a few short weeks, and I cannot wait to finally use this space again! Follow along with the progress of all of the rest of the designers as they reveal their final looks next week too. I’ll be sharing my behind the scenes looks as everything gets wrapped up this week-check it out at Facebook and Instagram! Plus find all of the photos of this makeover, along with all of those gorgeous inspirational bath photos over on my Pinterest page.

It is really coming together! Lazy painters unite! For the little pot that I painted, I used a plastic grocery sack pulled tight to create the sharp line. 😀 I also agree with you about the toilet. I’m am the mom of three boys. We replace toilet seats every couple of years.

Oh my gosh, I’m totally trying the grocery sack trick-I always just use what I have on hand-that is genius! 🙂

Oh I love those floors! I decided my floors didn’t fit into my budget for my bathroom, but I do think I will change them out at some point, and yours are gorgeous!

I didn’t do my shower for the same reason…there will always be more projects to do! 🙂
