I’m so excited to share this Real Postbox Project with you today…because I F-I-N-A-L-L-Y got to do a Postbox in a style that I’ve been obsessed with lately…the boho chic look. Not sure what the Boho Style means? Bohemian is a mix of woods, warm metals, huge swatches of neutral colors with pops of vivid colors. Persian rugs, Aztec print, and other global looks are a must-have in this style. If you are a dreamy, wander lust kind of person this style might be for you!

In fact this client said she was a mix of “boho” and “rustic”. So if you are digging the popular, rustic farmhouse look, these styles absolutely go together. Here are some tricks for getting this style:
Rustic, distressed woods
Pops of modern-think sleek chairs or modern light fixtures
Global patterns
White, navy, or gray walls
Pops of vivid colors: navy, orange, red, and yellows
Warm metals-such as copper, rose gold, and bronze
Simple, sleek shapes-no adorned patterns
Foliage-such as succulents and ferns
So with this sweet family, we had a few factors to consider into the design. They have an older son and a one year old daughter PLUS two dogs. So fixtures had to be kid and pup friendly-so to me that means durable, easy to clean, and low maintenance. They requested a budget friendly makeover for their eat-in breakfast area and a mini makeover for their kitchen.
In the eat-in area I chose a modern round table in a warm wood tone. Pairing it up with modern molded chairs (ie: easy to clean) and rustic iron chandelier all juxtaposes into a cohesive mix. They have a bay window in this area, so I recommended trading out their builder-grade white blinds with these warmer bamboo shades. I’m in love with these mini potted succulents-they give a retro boho look but are faux. Meaning not having to remember to water your plants when you are still sleep deprived from having a baby!
Clients love seeing their 3D perspective of their room. It is one thing to see all of the fixtures on a Mood Board, but the rendering helps them to see their room as life like as possible before ordering a single item. The overall look of this space and sleek and neutral, and still warm and homey.
A SPACE CAN BE KID FRIENDLY AND BEAUTIFUL.
I always do TWO versions of each space so my clients can have tons of options. Not only can they pick their favorite version, but I design so they can mix and match. They can take their favorite items from each version to make a customized look that is all their own. Version #2 keeps the same boho look, but switching it up.
I love the look of rugs under a table, but….when you have small kids it isn’t the most practical. I know from experience-dried mac ‘n cheese doesn’t clean up very well from a rug. Nor does grape juice. But I still wanted to inject some global pattern and color into this space. So instead I found this gorgeous handmade table runner. When they eat they can take it off their table. Which isn’t a bad thing considering how gorgeous this rustic table is! Plus it comes in at under $500…a third of the cost of similar tables. Rattan chairs are comfy, easy to clean, and give a unique look.
But my favorite part of this version is the Ikea pendant. This statement pendant is only $60, but with a quick DIY trick it is going to look ten times the cost. I suggested that the homeowners spray paint the inside gold for a high-end look. This wood sign was actually found by the homeowner, and I love the rustic flair it adds to the space.
THE KITCHEN
Like so many people, these homeowners weren’t looking to do a full remodel. Instead they wanted to keep their existing cabinets, and update them with paint and trim. They wanted help with suggestions to give their kitchen a brand new look. It also had to coordinate with their breakfast area update as the two spaces flow into each other. So what does a boho chic style look like in the kitchen? A mix of deep paint colors and warm woods. And see how much charm is added with this rug?
Honestly WTF
I suggested painting their perimeter cabinets white with a deep navy island. Pops of brushed gold with the cabinet hardware add a high-end look. These light fixtures are budget friendly and are instant DIY updates. And to finish the boho look, this soft, patina rug adds character to the kitchen.
Love this look? Stay tuned for the reveal of their living room that I also designed for them. In the meantime, follow me on Pinterest where I have loads of this look pinned! Plus if you are into free design tips, discounts, and ideas, hang out with me on Facebook and Instagram.

Hi there! I wouldn’t have previously ever said that I like the boho look for myself but these designs are great!! Can you advise where the table and chairs are from in the first design? I also love the color scheme for the kitchen. It’s almost exactly what we just did in our Laundry room. Where is that rug from? Thank you!!

Hi! I’m SO glad you like it! It isn’t usually my first “go to” style, but after doing this project I am really loving it! The rug is from Joss & Main and is called the “Veronica” rug, starting at just $56! The table and chairs are both from AllModern.com -they are the “Modrest” table and the “Cameron” chairs. If those are the colors from your Laundry Room I’m sure it is gorgeous, I love that combo 🙂
