I’m really excited to share another Room Reveal with you today! Today I’m showing you a start-to-finish project with this Boho Chic Living Room + Home Bar area! How many of you have “that” room that you never use? Back in the day it used to be called the “formal living room”, but these days most of us hardly use a space like that. These homeowners had the exact same problem.
Here was the “Before”:
They had this room at the back of their home, off their Dining Room that they NEVER USED. Which was a shame because this is a fun loving family who loves to host a good party. So instead of a formal living room, she wanted to change this into a type of “overflow” room with comfy seating and a bar area, so guests could mingle before or after dinner, while still being part of the larger group.
Genius.
As always, I created two versions for my client. Based on her Pinterest board and her Design Questionnaire, she has a distinctly modern style but is still warm. She has also traveled the world and wanted to bring in some of her artwork and items into her space. I think this warm, modern, but slightly eclectic mix puts this room square into the:
“Boho Chic Style”
Here is Version #1 Mood Board for her Boho Chic Living Room + Home Bar:
This warm walnut hued buffet (#8) has a mid-century modern sleekness to it. The buffet holds tons of storage (which was on her wish list), and I suggested a simple acrylic tray (#2) to keep her bottles out as a type of decoration (similar to this “inspirational image” I included as part of her Mood Board.
My client already had this set of four wicker “pod” chairs that she wanted to keep-these natural fibers work perfectly with her Boho Chic aesthetic. To give them a little more flair I found these global inspired Target pillows (#5) to grace each chair. She also wanted to update her carpet to hardwood floors and requested some direction in a flooring choice. And this West Elm lamp (#7) not only adds some decor to her corner, but this room had no ceiling light, so extra lighting was a must (as I also found a smaller lamp (#3) for her buffet)
And to help her really visualize her space, I also created this 3D Perspective drawing for her:
So you want to see what the room looks like now? Of course you do!
I love how she made the room her own by adding in different artwork-this is a piece she picked up on her travels abroad. Postbox Designs creates the template, but I always love it when clients add onto the design or change out a piece here or there to make their personal selections part of the room:
As requested, we kept her wicker pod chairs, but adding in these navy herringbone pillows helps create some additional layers and add in another pop of color. She also wanted to keep her (fantastic) leather ottoman in the room. It works beautifully for this flexible seating for four…it gives friends a place to put their drink or a place to put out appetizers for a party. By adding this tray in, it allowed for this grouping of succulents and boho chic vase. If she wants to use the ottoman, all she has to do is pick up the tray and move it!
Before, this room was hardly used. Now, with the addition of this sleek console table, the room has a purpose with a Home Bar as well. It gives guests a reason to mingle into this room, and then flow into the adjacent Dining Room.
Before, she had a dark blue wall that she wanted gone as part of the design process. And because this room didn’t have a ceiling light, it tended to be dark. Instead, we painted all of these open space rooms the same color-a creamy light greige. And with the addition of these West Elm lights, it gives some much needed light.
With the Boho Chic style, you want to add nature inspired, warm pieces that have a global flair to them. And all of the warm colors used in the room are all pulled together by this rug. Furthermore, add in elements such as warm woods and gold metals if you want to try this look at home!
A Home Bar doesn’t need to be complex to work well! This buffet table doubles as storage for the adjacent Dining Room and the top is used as the Home Bar. Keep everything out in the open to make it easy for guests. This simple acrylic tray lets all of these gorgeous bottles work as their own vignette! And this gold hammered ice bucket is a great buy from Target. Also from Target is this $5 jewelry tray that can be used as a catch-all for wine corks, beer bottle tops, etc. Or put stir sticks for mixed drinks on here!
As part of this project we also re-vamped the Dining Room into a more modern Boho Chic style (that reveal coming soon!), and now the two rooms really flow into each other. Plus, if the homeowner wants an easy centerpiece for her Dining Room table? Simply use this tray from her Sitting Room and plop it on the table…a 10 second centerpiece!
This client was so much fun to work with-she had great taste and great ideas. She knew what she liked, she just needed some help to pull it all together. Even better, I was thrilled to design all three main living spaces for her first floor. So her three Postboxes worked as a Master Plan, she knew all of her new spaces would flow together and be cohesive with each other.
This is what her Boho Chic Sitting Room and Home Bar Postbox looked like-it came with two versions of Mood Boards, 3D Perspectives, Floor Plan, Step-by-Step instructions, and materials like paint, fabric, and flooring! Everything she needed to create her new room came together in her Postbox.
Love the Boho Chic style? Here is another Real Postbox Project I created for another family of four. Global elements, dark woods, gold accents, sleek lines, and this aztec rug create a beautiful but also family friendly room. Check out how this whole project came together in this blog post called How To Decorate for Kids (Without Looking Like It!) (I think a lot of us can relate to that one!)
And here is the 3D Perspective of the same project. Want to see what Version #1 also looked like? Check it all out HERE!
I started Postbox Designs because after 13 years of being an Interior Designer, I realized so many people are already so over-scheduled with work, kids and LIFE that they had little time to meet their designer all around town. E-Design gives you all of the same custom design work but for a fraction of the cost AND without ever having to leave home. After getting your Postbox you can literally order your entire room in an hour in your jammies. Then let everything come right to your door, and use your Postbox as a guide to pull it all together.
It really is as fun as it sounds! Shoot me an email at kristin@postboxdesigns.com and we can talk all about Y-O-U!

I love reveals! What a cozy, fun space. The four chairs around the ottoman is a great use of the space. Perfect for curling up with a book or for a gathering.
