One Room Challenge Week #3
(+ 10 Items for $40 Kid’s Bedroom Mood Board)
Hi! I’m so glad you found Postbox Designs-if we are old friends, then welcome back. 🙂 If you are finding me for the first time through One Room Challenge-I’m glad you are here! I’m Kristin, mama to 3, interior designer and I started my E-Design company to help other busy people fit interior design into their lives. I custom design rooms and then mail my clients their room-inside-a-box full of everything they need to order their room without leaving home…in under an hour.
But for the next few weeks in addition to working with my amazing clients, I’m tackling a room in my very own home. One Room Challenge is the brainchild of Calling It Home, and she inspired hundreds of us to tackle a room makeover in just six weeks. This is my fourth time participating and honestly, it is the motivation I need to actually work on my own home! If you want to check out some of my past One Room Challenge Makeovers you can click below and see the before/afters and Sources for all of my projects:
One Room Challenge Bedroom Makeover Re-Cap
So what have I been up to for the last two weeks? If you missed it no worries-you can get caught up below! But last year’s One Room Challenge Makeover got me to thinking…I know peeking into other people’s houses is SO much fun (I think I would be a realtor in another life), but I wanted you guys to get something out of it too. So for both last year’s makeover and this one:
I created a FREE exclusive Mood Board, Guide, Shopping List, etc. to go with each week’s Challenge
They all have to do with the theme of my Boy’s Bedroom Makeover (last year was a Farmhouse Family Room + Kid’s Craft Area), so if you want to load up and check out all of my past freebies you can find them all in my FREE RESOURCE LIBRARY. It is already full of all kinds of design freebies, but be looking for a new one each week during my One Room Challenge!
You can also see all of the “befores” and the Mood Board that started it all for my son’s Woodland Aventure Bedroom Makeover right here:

Woodland Boy’s Bedroom Makeover-Make it All Come Together
And now we are at the halfway point of Week #3! Last week I talked about bedding and how to find the perfect bedding combo (with still having money leftover to send that kid to college). But this week is all about the accessories. Like jewelry to your LBD, the accessories are what make it fun. So last Friday my friend, who is also an interior designer, and I went out for drinks and a BIG OLD HomeGoods shopping spree! I’m kicking myself for not taking a picture of us with our three shopping carts out on a Friday night with no kiddos. Let’s just say we took a little longer “browsing” than if we had our combined brood of 6 kiddos with us.
Honestly, I don’t think I have ever home decor shopped with another interior designer before! But it was amazing-she has a great eye and found all kinds of goodies that I passed by. She was the one who spotted this vintage style mini suitcase and hunter green calendar. This mini globe was one of my first finds there and was one of my favorite picks. Most of these finds in these photos are from HomeGoods, but you can find the SOURCES for the rest of the items in the Shopping List printable over in my Free Resource Library.
And don’t you love this felt banner? I actually found this for a client a few months ago for a Playroom Makeover I was doing, but I loved it so much that I snagged one for myself! You can find it (and other amazing banners) over at Etsy’s “Aspen and Oak”. This lady does beautiful work! Mine says “Go + Outside” since I’m going with the whole Woodland Aventure Bedroom theme.
And I know I have shared Mr. Bear with you before, but I’m totally smitten by him. I can’t help but smile every time I see him. And as luck would have it, last week I volunteered for the zoo field trip with my 4th grade daughter. And guess what exhibit I was assigned to…the Bears. It was meant to be. You can get this print yourself in black and white OR color for $7. This shop has a beautiful selection of animal photos that would be perfect in a kid’s bedroom or nursery. You can find it at Vivid Atelier
And like I shared with you last week, I had my eye on this “Wanderer” pillow for about oh…forever now. So I was thrilled to have an excuse to snap it up. I’m also pairing it up with this buffalo check plaid bedding. I also already had this cardboard deer head that I’m going to try to incorporate as well. And yes, I know that was a pretty weird sentence to write! As you can tell, I’m trying to go fairly neutral with some deep pops of color like navy, hunter green, gold, and red…sort of those rustic Woodland style colors.
I’m playing around with how I’m going to set everything up. This faux antler was another HomeGoods find on clearance for $3.50! But it’s a bit small so I grabbed a stack of hardcover books from my daughter’s room to build it up a bit.
So stay tuned for next week where somehow I’m going to pull all of these accessories together into vignettes for his room. Easier said than done sometimes. But since today is all about the accessories I wanted to introduce this week’s Freebie to you:
Freebie of the Week:
10 Items Under $40 for Your Kid’s Bedroom
I’m a big believer that you can get beautiful design on any budget. And with kid’s bedrooms I am always very hesitant to put uber expensive items in there. Now-if your kids are older (and or cleaner/more responsible) than mine, there is a place for high-end items. And in fact, I do always suggest to buy the highest quality FURNITURE pieces you can because they can last a long time. But for accessories or theme inspired items, you can certainly grab great pieces on a budget. So this week’s One Room Challenge Freebie is this Mood Board with 10 Items Under $40 for Your Kid’s Bedroom. Because of my Woodland Adventure themed Bedroom, these are going to fit into that theme. But certainly any of these pieces can be used in a boy OR girl bedroom or playroom. Or you can use it for an entirely different theme (I mean what parent wouldn’t want their kid to know all of their states with that adorable map??). These pieces start at just $7, and the most expensive item clocks in under $40.
You can find this Mood Board + Shopping List in my FREE RESOURCE LIBRARY along with all of the other Guides, Shopping Lists, and more already in there.
What’s Next on my One Room Challenge Boy’s Adventure Bedroom Makeover?
Next week I’m going to pull all of these items together to create vignettes and groupings for his bedroom. I’m also going to show you my FAVORITE SHADE OF WHITE that I have used four different times in my house now. Hint: It’s probably not one of you have heard of before! Until then I am showing sneak peeks over on my Instagram and Facebook. You can come hang out with me over there. I’m about as much fun as an introvert can be! 🙂 And please be sure to check out the 200+ Guest Designers and the 20 Featured Designers this week over at the One Room Challenge Blog!
See you next week!
Kristin
