Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover Mood Boards
Hi guys! I have not one but TWO Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover Mood Boards to share with you! Many of my clients (like so many of you) love the Modern Farmhouse look for their Kitchen design. I recently worked on two different kitchens that both had a similar style but as you can see, the kitchens still have totally unique looks.
So if you love the Farmhouse style or Fixer Upper look for your dream kitchen, read on and grab some inspiration for your own kitchen makeover!
Farmhouse Kitchen Design #1: Version 1
For this first kitchen, I worked with a lovely client in Colorado who was building her dream home. We took her architect’s floor plan and I helped her select all of the fixtures and finishes to bring this kitchen to life. Like with all of my clients, I had her create a Pinterest board with images she loved. In the Mood Board below was one of her favorite images. So we took the FEEL of that kitchen, but added in unique elements to create a kitchen customized just for her. I started off with a classic white kitchen but added in a soft gray island for a pop of color. A white subway tile backsplash is a great Farmhouse staple, but adding in a marble mosaic tile behind the range adds some flair. Matte black plumbing fixtures, apron front sink, and rustic plank wood floors complete the look. Much like her Pinterest photo, we also used white quartz countertops, metal pendant lights and polished nickel hardware.
This kitchen shows you CAN mix rustic Farmhouse elements with more traditional elements to create a classic look.
Farmhouse Kitchen Design #1: Version 2
I always create TWO versions of every design for my clients. They are always created to be mixed-and-matched so she could have multiple options OR create a combined look. In this version I swapped out pendant lights for this gorgeous rustic metal chandelier. This Farmhouse Kitchen design has a more rustic look: rustic distressed island cabinets, matte black hardware, rustic island barstools, and a Fixer Upper style brick backsplash.
Which one do you think she will go with? We will have to wait and see!
Farmhouse Kitchen Version #2
But today you get a BONUS of getting a sneak peek into a second real life Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover! This Farmhouse Kitchen design was for a super fun client in Indianapolis. She and her husband were moving cross country and wanted to tackle their new kitchen as their first project. She had a strong vision of what she wanted, but needed some help pulling everything together.
Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Details
In this kitchen makeover we started with some classic, traditional elements like this polished nickel bridge faucet, a gray granite, white Shaker cabinets and glazed gray subway tile (a great change up to the classic white subway tile version). Modern farmhouse design accents such as these faux ceiling beams, industrial island light pendants, and gorgeous black swing arm sconces. Matte gold hardware adds a glam touch and this custom metal hood will be the star of the show!
So my client has her Mood Board and Shopping Lists…now what? For this client I created a special add-on to her package: a 3D rendering of her kitchen space. Gone is her outdated kitchen! In it’s place is a crisp and polished kitchen just oozing with Farmhouse charm! My favorite element are these gorgeous wood ceiling beams.

I love this, Kristin! Do you have any tips on doing faux ceiling beams like that?
PostboxDesigns says
Thanks friend! 🙂 Actually these faux beams are from Home Depot! You can find them in several different styles and lengths there, or at Lowes as well. They are hollow inside, so they are light as well-and I thought they were priced very reasonably! 🙂

Love your mood boards. Wondering what software you use to make them?
PostboxDesigns says
Hi Melanie, Thanks so much! I use Photoshop to make all of my Mood Boards. I created a template in there, then I import images of all of the items I’m using into it 🙂
