Modern Boho Bedroom Makeover Reveal
Hi Guys! Today I get to share with you a Real Postbox Makeover that I recently worked on, located in Boston. This space had great bones with high ceilings, original hardwood floors, and is located in the heart of the city. However, this two bedroom space was very small with an odd floor plan that made furniture arrangement a bit tricky (you’ll see that in person when I show you the Living Room makeover!). But with some interior design tricks we whipped this space into a beautiful, sleek space that is still comfortable and inviting.
I actually got to pair up with the company Sonder on this project. Sonder offers beautiful but affordable rentals in several major cities throughout the States, such as Chicago, LA, San Fran, and Boston. While I was lucky enough to work on several, today I’m sharing the Boston makeover. If you like this space, you can even rent it yourself HERE!
Here is what the bedroom space looked like before:
Modern Boho Bedroom Mood Board
Just like with all of my E-Design clients, I always start with a Mood Board to design the room. For my client I created this Mood Board along with a Shopping List, and Floor Plan so that the on-site crew knew exactly where to place all of the items in this bedroom. A simple gray headboard, crisp white sheets, and one simple boho lumbar pillow keeps the bed sleek and simple. All of the items I selected for this space are sleek, small items made to take up minimum floor space. All this bedroom makeover needed was a few simple accessories to finish off the space.
Modern Boho Bedroom Decor
And here is the finished look of this Modern Boho Bedroom Makeover! Sonder properties all have very distinct looks, but they all fit within a modern, boho, or eclectic styles. Whenever you have a small bedroom like this one, keeping styling to a minimum actually makes the room feel larger.
We kept the bedroom walls and airy white, then added this modern, tufted upholstered headboard in the center of the room. Simple graphic art over the headboard keeps the bedroom looking modern and streamlined.
Furniture Pieces for Small Bedroom Spaces
Any time you are tight on space, you want to chose purposeful pieces that either do double duty, or take up minimal floor space. This pair of matching wood and brass side tables are sleek with small bases. And to give maximum space for each table, I found these fantastic modern sconces. They are without a doubt my favorite part of this bedroom makeover! A simple stack of books gives this guest something to look over while drifting off to sleep…
Modern Boho Touches
This tone-on-tone chevron throw helps give the bed a finished look, while giving the sleeper something to cozy up with. Whether you like the Modern Boho style, or something different, this combination of:
White Sheets + One Lumbar Pillow + One Throw Blanket
is a combination that works every.single.time. It creates interest without going overboard.
Modern Bedroom Sconces
Sconces are having a major comeback moment right now and for great reason. Instead of only a harsh overhead light, it is an additional task lighting that allows a softer, quieter lighting solution . While you can find sconces in literally even design style, this modern, industrial sconce adds a pop of brass to the room (to pull in those sleek side tables).
If you can’t/don’t want to open up walls for electrical work, search for “plug-in” sconces instead. Simply plug-in and enjoy!
Here’s a shot from the Living Room (stay tuned for that makeover reveal coming soon), into both bedrooms. Because this space was so small, keeping both bedrooms the same airy white color keeps things simple, with a pop of a navy accent wall in the Living Room area.
I had a blast working with Sonder on this project, I was able to work on several of their projects in Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco. So stay tuned for those makeovers!
