Farmhouse Kid’s Playroom Makeover & Homework Center
Today is all about the kids….and playing. Kid Playroom Design in fact. But first an introduction….
Hey there! If this is your first time to Postbox Designs, I’m so glad you are here. My name is Kristin-I’m a Mom of three and have been living the dream of being an interior designer for about 13 years now. I started my own company almost three years ago so I could focus solely on Interior E-Design. I get to work with clients all over the country with a simple, straightforward process. Two weeks, fixed price Room Packages, and a Postbox full of drawings, shopping lists, and materials samples mailed right to your door. You can find out How It Works if you want to learn more.
Or, you could be here because you saw Part I of this Farmhouse style Kid’s Playroom Makeover! In Part I, I showed you the first version of this neutral Fixer Upper style Playroom I designed for four siblings in Texas. And today I want to show you the second version I created. For all of my clients I create two different designs, made to mix and match. So she can choose her favorite elements from each design, or just choose her favorite.
Kid’s Playroom Makeover: Part II
In this kid’s Playroom design we used a more traditional desk (but still large enough for two kids to work there). When you are using a desk (#10) for multiple children, I always suggest giving each child a bin, basket, bucket, etc. filled with all of their things, so they can simply pull out their bin and work. The big kids can use this as their homework desk and the little kids can use it for a craft table. I love using light weight metal chairs (#11) with kids: they are easy to clean, easy to move, and inexpensive. The perfect combo for kiddos.
For a secondary craft table this Crate and Kids table (#3) can double up as both a coffee table and game/craft table. Pull in poufs or pillows for simple extra seating.
And speaking of seating….how cute is this mini Chesterfield sofa?
This mini sofa (#2) is from Pottery Barn Kids and they can use it as both a reading area or for watching TV. To add some whimsy to the room, they can add these oversized Scrabble letters (#1) to the wall in the “PLAY” theme.
Kid’s Farmhouse Playroom Reading Nook
Don’t have room for a teepee or full fledged reading area for your kids? I love using one of these canopies (#8), you can put a fuzzy rug inside (#12) or some cushy pillows to give a kid a quiet place where they can snuggle in. It hardly takes up any floor space and it can tuck away in a corner. This works great for a shared bedroom too-it gives a kiddo some privacy and most kids love to snuggle up in small spaces!
Farmhouse Wall Art for a Kid’s Playroom Design
The place where you can have the most fun in any kid’s space is with the wall decor! You can go with a theme or just add some whimsical pieces to up the fun factor. In this Playroom we went with a Farmhouse/vintage schoolhouse theme. My client loves the Fixer Upper look, so I found these vintage inspired flashcards (#15) and vintage style alphabet print (#21). We also jazzed up the area on top of their toy storage with some fun old-fashioned suitcases (#18), monogram (#19) and colorful pennant garlands (#20).
I have been in love with this image (#14) from Lay Baby Lay for like, forever. She is the master at all things kid decor. So take her lead with filling up an empty wall with everything a kiddo would love.

This was a really fun Playroom Makeover project because it was actually the Grandma who contacted me who wanted a Playroom design for all of her grandbabies (how fun is THAT?). Since she had multiple genders and ages, we went with a fun adventure, woodland animal theme. It is full of fun pieces from Crate and Kids, Target’s Pillowfort line, Pottery Barn Kids, and Etsy pieces.
Adventure Themed Playroom Makeover
This Playroom holds a special place in my heart because it was one of the first Playroom designs I did via Postbox Designs! A Mom in Texas wanted a rustic theme for her shared Playroom, with some Texas accents thrown in. I also created a Gallery Wall made up almost exclusively of FREE PRINTABLES! Cuz free is always fun. There is a link included in the blog post so you can grab the art for yourself.
