Coastal Living Room Makeover: Part II
Hi friends, I’m so glad you found Postbox Designs! I specialize in Online Interior Design, where I custom design rooms for my clients all over the country. After designing their room, I mail their room-inside-a-box to them with everything they need to pull together their room. Then they can order their entire room in an hour, without leaving home. Everything is done on my client’s schedule and budget…just like today’s Living Room Makeover I wanted to share with you!
But before I share today’s project with you, if you missed Part I of this Coastal Living Room Makeover you will want to check it out right here first. I always create two different custom designs for my clients, so check out Version #1 of this Washington state Living Room:
Coastal Living Room Makeover: Part I
Coastal Living Room Makeover: Part I Blog Post
One of the best parts of my job as an interior designer is designing in different styles every day. Modern, Traditional, Boho, Cottage, Farmhouse, Glam, Rustic, Neutral, Colorful…I do it all! Every client has a totally different style and need for their space. But every now and then a client comes along who has the EXACT same taste as I do…which makes it especially fun. When this client contacted me last month about furnishing her Living Room in her brand new custom home,
I found my style BFF.
She wanted a neutral coastal style Living Room with some modern elements, some traditional elements, and just a pop of Farmhouse to it. In the first version of this Living Room Makeover I created a neutral rooms with pops of heathered blue and gray. In this second Coastal Living Room design, I kept in the neutral elements, layered on distressed woods, and added pops of soft aqua.
Coastal Living Room Makeover: Part II
This oatmeal colored Pottery Barn sofa with modern lines grounds the room, then we layered on a beautiful set of coordinating throw pillows with a mix of patterns and colors-all in a subdued color palette. A jute rug gives a coastal vibe to this Living Room design, and is also durable and stain resistant. For some rustic Farmhouse elements to the space, this West Elm coffee table and Birch Lane spindle side table (which I am in loooove with) give a distressed look, and will also hold up well with kids. To keep her Living Room decor from being too traditional, a few modern elements were added in like this budget friendly Target console table and Pottery Barn upholstered chair. Beachy elements like rattan baskets, a driftwood tray, and distressed metal keep her Living Room feeling casual.
Budget Friendly Coastal Living Room Decor Items
I always recommend putting the majority of your budget into neutral, well made furniture pieces-especially for items such as your sofa, armchairs, and coffee table. But then you can easily mix in more budget friendly pieces from places like Target, Wayfair, and HomeGoods. In her coastal inspired Living Room makeover, these budget friendly vases are from Magnolia Market , the bird sculpture, tray, and pouf are from Target, and this full length mirror is a steal from Wayfair. All of her pillows are from Etsy.
Neutral Living Room Makeover
And here it is all pulled together! A neutral living room with just enough pops of subtle color and pattern to keep it interesting. And while the whole room is beautiful, the best part is that the room is durable, easy-to-clean, and kid/pet friendly. Whether you are working with a professional interior designer or doing a DIY job, be sure that your furniture choices reflect YOUR personal needs. I design a room very differently for an empty nester couple than a young family with babies and a dog! Think about colors and pattern that will hide dirt, fabrics that are meant to be more durable (such as Crypton and Sunbrella) and well made pieces that will hold up well to pillow fights.
And the best part about my gig as an interior designer? When I get to design a room that my client loves…they feel like the room was designed JUST FOR THEM.
After getting her Postbox my client had these words:
“Wow!! Thanks Kristin! You knocked it out of the park! After such a frustrating building experience you have been such a breath of fresh air. I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate they way you listened and put together such a beautiful space. You have a gift! “
Seriously, that feeling can not be more rewarding. This is why I do what I do!
How Online Interior Design Works
Today’s project was done 100% via Online Interior Design. Once my client purchases their Room Package I send them a Welcome Packet with everything they need to get started. I get all of their information back on their needs, budget, and style , then I get to work custom designing their room. I create two different mix-and-match versions of each room I design. Then I package up my clients room-inside-a-box with all of the drawings they need: Mood Boards, Floor Plan, 3D Renderings, Step-by-Step instructions, Shopping List, and material samples. You can see a sample of what comes inside a Postbox right here in How It Works!
Once they have their Postbox they can pull together their room on their schedule and budget. If that sounds like a good fit for you, I would love to work with you! You can email me at kristin@postboxdesigns.com to get started.
Not ready for a custom interior design project? No problem! I have just the thing for you.
