Creating a Glam Master Bedroom…You Don’t Ever Want to Leave
Thanks so much for stopping by! I’m Kristin, Mom to 3 and owner of Postbox Designs where I exclusively work via Interior E-Design for clients all over the country. But this blog is to help bring some of these real life designs to Y-O-U to get ideas for your own home. And my sweet client allowed me to share her project with you so we could talk about a very important space…the Master Bedroom!
5 Ways to Create a Glam Master Bedroom Design
Sit with me for a second and visualize how your Master Bedroom looks like right now….
A. An elegant and relaxing space that makes you feel like you’re sleeping in a high-end hotel
or
B. Stacks of laundry sitting on top of your bed, messy bedside tables with half full glasses, and the bedding…when was the last time I bought new bedding?….
If you answered “B”, then you came to the right place! Maybe you haven’t had time, don’t know where to start, or it keeps getting pushed to the back of your To Do list. Recently, a New Jersey Mom reached out to me because as a full-time working Mom of young kids…she wanted her spaces to look beautiful and reflect her elegant tastes, but she didn’t have any spare time left in her schedule. So we worked together to create an elegant, glam Master Bedroom she and her hubby will never want to leave. So now if Mom is missing, her kids will know the first place to look!
With this wonderful client, she already had some of her main pieces of furniture, so we worked together with my By-the-Hour Room Package
Plus, I’m going to walk you through her elegant Master Bedroom Makeover and give you 5 Ways to Re-Create this look for yourself…
Create a Glam Master Bedroom Step 1: Choose the Right Color Palette
If you are dreaming of a luxe Master Bedroom that feels like you are on vacation in your favorite glam hotel, then you want to start with colors that are serene and relaxing.
The Colors I Suggest: Whites, Grays, Golds & Silvers
For this glam Master Bedroom makeover I wanted to incorporate shiny & polished metals with hints of sparkle and metallic…without feeling like a teen girl’s bedroom.
White & Gray Color Tones
Nothing says “hotel” like all white bedding. So we layered on versions of super soft, elegant white sheets and duvet (#8), then layered on a gray velvet quilt (#9) at the end of the bed. White faux fur pillows (#6) and metallic lumbar pillow (#11) add some glam texture and shine.
Gold Color Tones
Then we added in pops of gold sprinkled throughout the room such as this bedside clock (#10), geometric gold bud vase (#16) and an acrylic & gold bench (#15) at the end of the bed.
Silver & Mercury Glass
You don’t have to choose between gold and silver…you can have them both. We mixed in plenty of silver accents, including one of my favorite materials-a mercury glass finish, like in these table lamps (#3). In the seating area I gave her two choices of side tables (#42 & 43) both with a silver finish. We also added in these elegant mirrors (#7) over each nightstand and this silver tray (#12) for one of the nightstands.
Create a Glam Master Bedroom Step 2: Think Textures Over Patterns
An instant way to create an elegant, luxurious Master Bedroom design is to steer clear from busy patterns, and instead use understated TEXTURE. If you simply use grays and whites to create your design, these neutral colors could make the room feel boring. So instead, you want to be sure to use different textures throughout the room.
Here are some that I used in this space:
-Lightly textured linen headboard
-Velvet quilt & bench
-Fur pillows
-Metallic & Mirrored pillows
-Silk drapery
-Woven knit throws
-Nailhead details
Create a Glam Master Bedroom Step 3: Use Throw Pillows to Your Advantage
If you have been hanging with me for awhile, you will know I always suggest going NEUTRAL on big pieces (in this bedroom-items like the headboard and chairs). Instead add in some fun pops of glam with a fairly inexpensive piece:
THROW PILLOWS
-We added faux fur pillows (#6) and a metallic lumbar pillow (#11) to add some interest to the all-white bedding
-In the seating area, we added this mirrored pillow (#25) and modern geometric pillow (#28) and a gold metallic pillow (#41)
Any of these patterns in large amounts would have been “too much”, but in small pops they add just the right amount of glam.
Create a Glam Master Bedroom Step 4: Create a Seating Area
A seating area in your Master Bedroom also reminds me of a high-end luxury hotel. My client was lucky to have a very large Master Bedroom, so we have plenty of space to create a seating grouping of two armchairs and a side table. If you are tight on space, a single, small armchair in a corner can make a big impact. For my client I gave her a couple of different combos of armchairs (#37-40) and side tables (42 & 43) along with a mirrored table lamp (#44). This is a place my client requested so she can relax with a cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at the end of the day. I’m feeling her plan, aren’t you?!
Create a Glam Master Bedroom Step 4: Create a Coffee Bar
So my client was super fortunate that she actually has these built-in cabinets inside her Master Bedroom (see the above photo). However, it had been a catch-all, so she needed some help styling it to make it more functional. I took a photo of her space, then Photoshopped in some of her new items so she could visualize it. We filled up her shelves with pretty (but functional) coffee cups (#34) and these diamond-inspired wine glasses (#35). And then I selected an elegant orchid (#31) and modern glam artwork (#30 & #33). She uses this space to brew her morning coffee and wine for the evenings with her husband.
But most of us DON’T have a partial kitchen in our Master Bedrooms! So how can you re-create this look for your own bedroom?
-Create a mini “coffee station” by adding a Keurig and gold tray (filled with coffee cups, stirrers, etc.) on top of a dresser. You can even store your K-cups inside the dresser drawer
-Create a mini “coffee station” inside your Master Bathroom-brew your coffee while you hop in the shower!
-Create a mini “coffee station” inside a closed door nightstand (create an opening in the back of the nightstand for the coffee maker cord to go through)
So there you go: 5 Ways to Create Your Own Glam Master Bedroom! A huge thank-you to my client for allowing me to share her Master Bedroom design with you guys! But wait…I have a few more ideas to share with you!
Glam Master Bathroom Design
We also made a few glam updates to their existing adjacent Master Bathroom. We used accessories to help polish the space, including toiletry items (#2), creating a tray on the vanity (#1), towels (#11), items to style some shelves (#9 & #10) and more:
