See My Coastal Bedroom Design Reveal
Hi friend, thanks so much for stopping by Postbox Designs today! Around here I believe in “Real Designs for Real Life” which means pretty-but also practical, durable spaces that work for real, messy life. And normally I’m sharing projects from my E-Design clients over here, but today I wanted to share something different. Today I’m showing off a room in my own Lake House! But first, if you missed the rest of this multi-room makeover…
Check Out the Rest of My Lake House Makeover
I recently shared our whole Lake House makeover this spring, where we tackled the Living Room, Dining Room, Bonus Room, and my Kid’s Shared Bedroom. If you missed it, you can check out the rest of our Lake House Makeover right here:

And while I shared most of the rooms we made over in our Lake House, I never showed our Master Bedroom Makeover! I will use the word “Master” very loosely because this room is teeny tiny. Here is what the bedroom looked like when I started:
The Before
Budget Friendly Bedroom Makeover
And here is the after! To save precious floor space, I skipped a full bed and just used this gray upholstered headboard from Wayfair. Then I layered on blue and white bedding (all of the bedding and pillows are from HomeGoods). Since it is such a small bedroom, I kept a repeating color palette of blues, white, and grays throughout the space.
I wanted to keep this small space looking light and airy. So I added simple white cotton curtains from Target on both windows. And I painted over the yellow walls with this light and creamy gray color. I used Benjamin Moore’s “Balboa Mist”
This is a simple little Lake House so we don’t have any AC. So having a ceiling fan was a must-have! This cottage style, galvanized ceiling fan was from Lowes.
And I felt like this room needed one simple focal point, which I found with this boat print over the bed. It was a digital download from Etsy for just a few dollars, and it reminds me of our lake out back!
Remember how I said our bedroom was small? I had to search high and low to find cabinets that were skinny enough to fit on either side of the bed. These tall cabinets are from Lowes, and we use them for clothing storage and they function as night-stands. I use the shelves for a catch all for items like phones and books.
Just like with the rest of our Lake House makeover, I went for a simple coastal look that was full of budget friendly finds. When we are at the Lake House, I want to be relaxing with a good book, not maintaining a whole house!
Adding Bedroom Storage for Small Spaces
Remember how I said our Master Bedroom was small? In fact it is so small there is no closet in the space. I had been either stuffing my clothes under the bed, or living out of my weekend bag. But then I paired up with Wayfair to finally tackle my storage problems once and for all. I chose this simple modern Portable Clothing Rack that literally doubled my existing storage! I liked the clean lines so it would blend right into the space.
Weird fact about me….I REALLY hate wearing shorts. So I pretty much live in sundresses during these Michigan summers…and now I finally have a space to store them. You can find a lot of other sleek modern options HERE
And if you have your storage out in the open you definitely want to nix those wire dry cleaner frames (oh you know you use them too!). I’ve had these hangers for over 10 years now (I have definitely gotten my money worth), but you can find some other Cute Hanger Options to dress up your open storage or closet space.
Creating a Coastal Bedroom Decor In a Small Space
So there you go: a peek into my own Lake House Bedroom! When you have a small bedroom like this, I think “less is more”. I stuck with just one piece of artwork, and concentrated on some fun bedding as the focal point in the room. I went with a series of light whites and grays to make the room feel light and airy. And finally, adding in some extra storage actually cleared up floor space (so I didn’t have to keep my suitcase out on the floor!)

Love your lakehouse spaces! Would you mind sharing the Etsy seller where you found your boat digital download? We’re building a lake house in MN next year (back to the Midwest for this Iowa girl) and it looks like it would be perfect. Thanks so much!
