Two Neutral Living Room Makeovers
When you are reading this blog post, most of us are still in the midst of stay-at-home orders and self quarantines. Which means lots of time at home. Looking at those walls and thinking about all of the things you DON’T like about your house. Adding onto that “To Do” of projects around your house. So let’s just say I have been getting a lot of emails from clients all over the country, using this extra time at home to finally tackle their room makeovers. And I’m thrilled to help! Here at my casa here in Michigan, I’m trying to work while “homeschooling” my three kids (I’m using that term very loosely), and also teaching my kiddos life lessons like how to clean and bathroom and do their own laundry!
So today I want to share two recent Living Room Makeovers with you! Both are neutral Living Room designs with a mix of traditional and modern elements…and all very cozy and comfortable. If I’m going to be stuck at home, you better believe I would want it to be in a house this beautiful!
Neutral Living Room #1
The wonderful client reached out to me a few weeks ago. And like a lot of my clients, she had some major pieces of furniture she loved and wanted to keep, such as her sofa and TV cabinet. But she needed help with everything else. She loved a neutral Living Room look with a request for a black, white, and gray color palette. She loves everything Fixer Upper and wanted her room to look polished, but still cozy. So, how does a room like that look?
Pulling together a Neutral Living Room Design
I started with this inspirational photo from my client’s Pinterest board (image #1) and used it as a starting point for her custom design. I added in pops of leather, a mix of black/white/gray pillows, and new fireplace decor using elements like an antique looking mirror, framed photos, and modern black candlesticks. When mixing pillows, I like using a mix of small patterns, large patterns, and solid colors.
Another part of my client’s Living Room makeover was a pretty console table she already owned. Again, I started with a room she already loved (Item #16 from Pottery Barn) and used it to style her table with this great horse print and some fun decor items. I love including these inspirational photos because, while I would never copy another designer’s space, it is such a great visual to see the VIBE and STYLE we are going for with all of these individual items.
Neutral Living Room Design #2
And as a bonus for y’all, I wanted to share one other Living Room Makeover with you. Actually it isn’t an entirely new room I’m sharing. I’ve been working with an amazing client for awhile now, and we have worked on four spaces in her house. Last fall I shared her Neutral Living Room Makeover(don’t worry, I’ll wait while you check it out!). Recently she reached out to me again for some new touches to her space and we re-selected some items. So I’m sharing the updated look for her family friendly neutral Living Room design.
Don’t you just love all of these cozy fabrics such as velvet and soft cotton pillows? Everything has such a cozy feel, but it still reads as elegant and polished, which made this Mama happy! And here are some of the “updates” we added to her space, such a new brass side tables, new sofa tables, and different pillow options and sofa table decor. You can check out the previous blog post (see the link above) for all of the details on this Living Room makeover, round #1.
For the updates, I added in some additional brass side table options (#2 and #3), some more pillows (#4), and a sofa table (#13) with all of the goodies to style it.
