2 Kid Bedroom Design Ideas: A Boy Bedroom + Girl Bedroom Makeover
Hi All, It has been a looooong (long, long) time since I posted on here! Like many of you, this last year has brought some crazy into our lives with COVID, homeschooling, working from home, plus we threw a move into a new house into the mix. I’ve been busy working with my wonderful clients from all over the country on all of their E-Design projects (in fact, I’ve never been busier!), but I have been neglecting posting on here. Y’all get it, I know. But I wanted to share just a couple projects I’ve been working on. And I wanted to start with one of my favorite subjects: Kid Rooms! And if you are looking for more kid room designs you can always search my Postbox Designs Blog for more ideas!
Boy Bedroom Design: Bring on the Dinos
So I wanted to start off the party with a boy bedroom design, for a sweet little guy who loves dinosaurs. My own son is obsessed with all things dinos, so this was an especially fun one for me. I worked with the nicest Mama, and we had a lot of fun together creating this bedroom design.
Nearly all of the furniture is from Crate and Kids (the kiddo version of Crate and Barrel), but I definitely mixed in some fun budget-friendly finds from Target. And like always, my favorite artwork is nearly always sourced from Etsy. You can find great and unique prints, that you can print off in any size you want, which makes life so much easier.
Creating a Theme in a Kid Bedroom Design
Mom had requested a full or queen sized bed for his new bedroom design (which I love!), and I mixed and matched some graphic prints that are still neutral and classic enough to grow with him. Whenever I create kid bedroom designs, I really like to be careful with how I create “themes” as kids rapidly change their love and interests. So nearly all of the dinosaur design is incorporated into the artwork that can easily be changed out in the future. Everything else can be repurposed when his interests ebb and flow over the years. Adding in inexpensive themed items (like the cute little dino I found from Target) is an easy way to add in items they can actually play with as well.
In my own son’s dinosaur themed room, I hung a few shelves over his desk, and he sits all of his dinosaur figurines out on them. He can take them down as he wants to play with them, and then can pop them back on the shelves to store (and it doubles up as his room decor!)
Girl Bedroom Design: Pretty Pastel Florals
I’m going to be honest, I was thrilled to hear from this Mama who wanted to create a pretty pastel bedroom for her young daughter, and requested florals as part of the design. So I MIGHT have designed this room like I would have wanted my own dream bedroom design when I was this age! Flowers, hearts, and pops of pink, golds, and grays were all part of this room decor.
My Favorite Girl Bedroom Design Ideas
Like I mentioned before, I really want well-made, neutral furniture for these kiddos to grow into, so I sourced most of the furniture from Pottery Barn Kids, as these pieces can last until she is a teenager. I loved this tufted upholstered bed because it would have reminded me of a princess bed at that age.
Window Seat: This lucky little girl had an actual window seat in her bedroom, but you can always create your own with furniture (or even a comfy chair in a corner), as every child I know loves little spaces to curl up in. I loaded her window seat up with cozy pillows and a custom window seat cushio.
Art Gallery: Art is always the easiest way to infuse personality into a kid bedroom design! Her Mom mentioned loving flowers, so I added in some grown up looking botanical prints, and paired it up with a fun floral wallpaper.
Whimsical Pops of Fun: And above all when designing a kid bedroom-make sure to have fun with it! So when I found this pink squirrel lamp it made me smile-so why not include it?? Pom poms, heart fabrics, and fur pillows are also fun, girly touches to keep this room feeling young looking.
Dresser Decor: Styling the top of the dresser takes the bedroom design to the top! But I really like to use the kid’s existing toys and books to mostly style this space….after all their room should be 100% touchable and useable!
I wanted to give a big thank-you to my clients for letting me share their kid’s bedroom designs with you today! As a fellow Mom, I try to make the process as easy as possible for my clients, and lucky we are all pretty comfortable with ordering (everything!) online these days! So you can find out more about How E-Design Works right here if you have any questions!
Glad to be back with you all! You can always feel free to reach out with questions on your own project at kristin@postboxdesigns.com
