Need Help with a Playroom Design?
Then look no further! I’m Kristin, Mom of 3 and owner of Postbox Designs Interior E-Design where I help my clients all over the country by designing their room virtually, and then giving them all they need to pull it all together. All of my clients receive Mood Boards, Floor Plans, clickable Shopping Lists and step-by-step directions of how to pull everything together. Then they can simply click and buy everything for their room…and just wait for the boxes to show up at their doorstep! Bonus points if they do their shopping in their PJs with a cup of coffee in hand!
But today we are talking all about…the Playroom. As a Mama myself, kid spaces are my most favorite spaces to design. And today I have not one, but two Playroom designs to share with you! So read on and get some ideas for your own Bonus Room or Playroom.
Girl Playroom Design: Bring on the Pink!
The first Playroom design I wanted to share for you is for a sweet little girl as part of a Lower Level makeover. Her Dads wanted to make sure she had a sweet little spot for reading, crafts, and movie nights. Her Dad also mentioned flowers and “pink” would be great elements to incorporate!
Playroom Design Must Haves
Toy Storage: If I could give just one tip for a Playroom it would be to have FUNCTIONAL toy storage! I’m not a fan of toy chests or flimsy baskets. Or closest where things get stuffed in…and ever come back out. One of my favorite storage pieces is this Cameron unit from Pottery Barn Kids. You can get it in all different configurations, and I love the combo of basket storage and drawers. And best yet, we turned the middle part into a reading seat for her, complete with fluffy pillows and a custom bench cushion.
Craft Table: If you have the room, I love including a craft table (make sure it is one with a material easy to wipe up-I like a painted or laminate surface) and easy to wipe down chairs (cute plastic or melamine chairs are great here). These pink Article chairs are practical and cute.
Reading Nook: A comfy cozy place that ALSO inspires a love to read? Yes please! Book ledges are paired up with a reading area and a cozy rug so she has different options for cozying up with a good book.
Playroom Design Artwork
I mixed in a series of grown up looking botanical prints, map art, and some inspirational prints (all from Etsy). But the main focal point for this Playroom will be the wall of bold floral wallpaper (also self stick and removeable…just in case they want a different look a bit later!)
The family also needing a seating spot for weekend movies (plus these Pottery Barn pieces fold out in a bed for overnight guests!). So I went for a more grown up look in this space, but with colors and patterns that still tired into the adjacent Playroom space.
Adventure Themed Playroom Design
And as a bonus, I have one more Playroom design to share with you! We are going up from the Lower Level to a Bonus Room Makeover with this Playroom design! This Mom reached out to me with a common request: a space that needed to fulfill a lot of needs! This Bonus Room needed to work as:
Playroom
Home Office
Family Room for movies
Easy Playroom Upgrade
If you can do just one thing to upgrade your Playroom, I would suggest new artwork! I found a series of Adventure themed and fun family friendly artwork to group together as as Wall Gallery for this Bonus Room. Because they are all digital downloads, my homeowner can print them off in whatever size she needs (I always include frame and print sizes, and an elevation on how to lay it all out-not shown).
And if you could do a second thing you ask? Throw Pillows! Like many of my clients, this client had some existing furniture such as a sofa and armchair. They were neutral and functional and worked great in the space, so we kept them, and dressed them up with throw pillows for a new, updated look.
A few more finishing touches such as new window treatments, a few small pieces of furniture, and a new layout finished off this Playroom that the whole family can use!
