Traditional Bedroom Design
Traditional is classic for a reason. I won’t go as far to say nothing ever goes out of style (hello stonewashed jeans from the 80s), but if you want a design style to stand the test of time…a traditional bedroom design will be your BFF. And if you are new here, welcome to Postbox Designs Interior E-Design
…Around here we are all about “Real Designs for Real Life”, so it is no surprise that 90% of my clients have kids, pets, and busy lives. They know what they like, but they struggle to pull it all together. And once we work together on the whole E-Design Process they have a Master Plan with step-by-step instructions on how to pull it together. Then they can do all of their shopping from their PJs over a cup of coffee. Pretty fun, right?
And my lovely client was kind enough to let me share her Master Bedroom design with y’all (this was the fifth room we worked on together):
5 Tips for a Traditional Bedroom Decor
1.Traditional Bedroom Decor Tip #1: Linen Bedding
Soft, well washed, comfy cozy linen bedding never goes out of style. I love sticking to the neutral bedding colors: white, oatmeal, and pale gray. Combine with crisp white sheets and you might never leave your bed. The bedding in image #2 happens to be what is on my own bed at home, and I’m in love.
2.Traditional Bedroom Decor Tip #2: Stick with Classic Fabric Patterns
Stripes, Herringbones, Plaid, Solids, and Checker patterns never need to make a come back, because they always seem to be in style. For a bedroom design I love sticking with a neutral color palette to keep things serene. I like to go neutral with the main bedding and add in pattern with throw pillows.
3.Traditional Bedroom Design Tip #3: Oil Painting
Whether they are original vintage oils, or a print, there is something so classically traditional about an oil painting. Stick with landscapes, animals, and farmscapes. However, I have definitely been known to suggest an oil painting of a homeowner’s dog…you still can have fun with it. 😉
4.Traditional Bedroom Design Tip #4: Layer in some Botanicals
Whether it is botanical artwork, like these vintage botanical sketch prints, or greenery, this is a theme that never goes out of style. I personally love combining black and white prints with oil prints (hello Tip #3).
5.Traditional Bedroom Design Tip #5: Layer in Brass and Dark Woods
Dark woods, such a rich cheery and dark walnut are always classic choices (although we went a bit lighter with these nightstands due to some of the existing furniture we were working around). Then layer in touches of polished brass or antique brass, in places such as the dresser hardware, lighting, or picture frames. If brass isn’t your jam, polished nickel is another classic choice.
So there you go, five different tips to create a classic Traditional Bedroom design, while still keeping a modern and updated look. But above all-while you want a beautiful Bedroom, make sure it is comfortable and dreamy as you will be spending about a third of your day here! We all deserve a special space where we can relax and feel at home, and a think the Master Bedroom is the perfect spot for such luxe.
