Neutral Master Bedroom Design: Sweet Dreams
Hello there! Welcome back to Postbox Designs Interior E-Design where I’m all about Real Designs for Real Life.
And today we are all about giving the parentals the comfiest room in the house! I’m a Mama of 3 myself and I am here to tell you, that my Master Bedroom is my favorite room in the house. It is where I rest, relax, and it SHOULD be a place that I look forward to at the end of every evening. So if your Master Bedroom is a mis-match of old bedding, a hang out for clothes to-be-ironed, and a collection of orphaned furniture, I’m here to tell you, this is a luxury worth having. You can sleep in a bedroom, or you can sleep in a sanctuary…and I for one want the latter!
So today I want to show you a Master Bedroom I designed for this sweet, busy Mama who wanted the same thing: a sanctuary for her husband and herself at the end of the day (and let’s be honest: a host spot for family movie nights too!)
Neutral Master Bedroom Design: Let the Napping Begin…
I’m a huge fan of the upholstered headboard-it just feels and look comfy, and I spend a good part of my time in my Master Bedroom reading or (gasp!) watching TV as I drift off to sleep. So for this Master Bedroom makeover, I started with this extra tall Pottery Barn linen headboard and then piled on layers of cozy neutral goodness. I’m a huge fan of crisp white sheets (they go with everything!) and using a down comforter. And you can never convince me otherwise…have you ever tried to wash a King sized comforter? Down is light, fluffy, and you feel like a princess napping under one. I like to invest in a good quality one (again, Pottery Barn is a great choice!).
But my favorite bedding secret ever?
This 100% flax linen duvet (#13) is from AMAZON. I love it so much I own it myself. And this King sized linen duvet will set you back only $140. I
I’ve owned mine for two years. I simply throw it in the washing machine and let it air dry. And my three kiddos and I have had a LOT of popcorn movie nights here!
Let’s Not Go Crazy with Those Pillows
I’m still a child of the 80s and I remember the days of 832 throw pillows on a bed (which had to be re-fluffed and re-arranged every morning). So I’m a fan of using gorgeous throw pillows, but keeping it to a handful. I suggested (2) large charcoal pillows (#20) in the back, two of these striped beauties (#19) in the middle, and a single velvet lumbar pillow (#18) in the front.
I also finished off the bed with a chunky woven quilt a the end of the bed for extra texture and warmth.
Master Bedroom Nightstand Styling
Like our 80s pillow analogy, we want pretty things out and about, but I always want to remember function too! So I always hope to find that happy medium with some pretty decor items for the tops of nightstands, but making those items functional too. These pair of terra cotta style table lamps help with evening reading (#11) and this sweet wooden box (#10) can hold loose ends like rings, chapstick, glasses, loose change…all of those itty bitty items. Plus we had to style it up a touch with a vase & greenery, candle, and picture frame.
Master Bedroom Styling Finishing Touches
And since we are talking about styling…let’s not leave those top of the dressers bare either! Page 2 (see below) has a slew of cutie pie budget friendly items to make that area feel polished and pulled together.
And finally, all of those cozy little extras like an end-of-the-bed bench ( (#27), area rug (#31) and vintage looking botanical prints (#35 & 36) help create this calming, peaceful space that Mom and Dad can call their own little sanctuary.
