I love a good kitchen. I’ve been a kitchen and bath designer for the last decade, so when a Postbox client comes around needing help with their kitchen, I get a little giddy. Currently I’m working on two different kitchens for clients, totally different looks (I’ll share soon with y’all!), but it inspired me to share this DIY kitchen island I put together awhile ago. Using the oh-so-popular navy and brass combination, you can create this island as a weekend project.
I started off using stock cabinetry, with a simple Shaker style door. But, I upgraded it with a glossy deep navy. Install these gorgeous hexagon brass pulls, and dress up the doors with these gold L-brackets. It gives is a custom, slightly industrial look to it. Finally, I topped it off with pre-finished butcherblock that you could pick up from your local big box store today (no waiting for templating and countertop installation).
And there you go! A totally custom island for a fraction of the cost!
Countertop: Island countertop, butcher block top, price for 30”W x 5’ L (comes in multiple sizes), $257
Cabinet Hardware: Faceted Ory Knob in Gold, $10, for the island cabinets, $10 each
Cabinets: Newport Cabinet Door style in white. Custom paint on site in below navy color
Island Paint Color: Sherwin Williams “Indigo Batik” in gloss finish
Want to see more navy and brass island inspiration? I found some of my favorite navy islands on Pinterest to share with y’all! I love how many of these are paired up with the white cabinet/white subway tile combo. It gives a farmhouse look with an industrial edge to it:
Want to see the rest of the Kitchen I created to go with my DIY Island? Classic materials like white cabinets, marble tops, and dark hardwood floors are a must. But bring it up to date with brushed brass fixtures and some geometric pattern for a modern take on farmhouse:
