Lately I’ve been designing quite a few bathrooms for clients, so I must have had bathrooms on the mind when I did my latest monthly post for Remodelaholic! I’m lucky enough that they let me hang out with them once and month and show off a way to makeover a room that is both beautiful AND budget friendly. So if you have a bathroom or powder room that could use a little love, hang in there and I’ll show you how it’s done!
As long as you haven’t been living in a cave, you might have noticed that marble hex tiles are all the rage right now! The great thing about this “trend” is it really isn’t trendy at all-this style has been around forever. Plus, marble is always a classic, elegant fixture to any bathroom. If you are digging this look, you’re in a luck-you can get them in a myriad of sizes and even colors-cool or warm grays. This one is showing off a mosiac, smaller hex tile, but I’ve seen them as large as 6″ each. They all give a slightly different look.
So I started with my obsession of the marble hex tile and built a powder room from there!
In addition to these lovely tiles, I wanted to give the bathroom an elegant look by using loads of polished nickel. This facuet and this sconce are classy and timeless. I paired it up with this white furniture style vanity topped with a white Carrara marble. To keep it from getting boring, I mixed up the metals and added this simple brass round mirror. This soft gray and white stripe rug can sit in front of the vanity, or you could double it up as a mat outside of a shower. Soft gray walls pull everything together, but you could also use a pop of color since every other element is so neutral. And finally, who doesn’t want to be reminded of their beauty (inside and out!) first thing in the morning when you are sans makeup? Hang #7 on a spare wall to remind yourself of your loveliness every day.

A couple tips when you are going for a bathroom with this type of look:
ONE: Break up the cool tones with some warm-a touch of wood looks great in a space like this! You can do this with a wood mirror or wood vanity.
TWO: I love the polished cool, metals, but the best baths always have a mix of 2-3 metals (just one finish and it looks too “in the box”, but too many is just confusing to the eye). I used polished nickel, but polished chrome is beautiful as well. The bath above is a bit trendier with matte gold as their fixtures.
THREE: Pick one focal point to shine. In this case it was the flooring, and everything else supports it.
FOUR: Don’t forget the maintenance factor! I’m in love with marble, but don’t forget-marble IS a porous material and it does have to be sealed when you install it, and every couple of years, depending on how much use the space gets. Don’t forget to seal those marble countertops as well! Don’t worry, it is a super simple process that will take you 30 minutes for the floor and about five minutes for a top.
FIVE: Take your space over the top with molding. You can add board and batten to the walls, or ship lap. Both add loads of texture and depth to the space. Shiplap takes it in a farmhouse direction, but panelings can amp up the elegance factor.
