It’s time! It’s time! October is next week which means it is officially time for the One Room Challenge again! This past spring I was an ORC virgin and tackled my oversized hallway to turn it into something a bit more useful. And because this is a bi-annual Challenge, it means I have the perfect excuse to use this six-weeks-only gig to transform another space. All of the fun begins next week but I wanted to give y’all a Sneak Peek into the room I’ll be making over. I’ll give you a hint-it is the most embarrassing room in my entire home.
Gulp.
But….before I let you inside, here is a re-cap of my very first ORC project. We joked that the former owners of our house must have been “Collectors” (silver spoons? figurines? snowglobes?). Because we literally removed dozens of shelves from our house upon our arrival three years ago. And one unique space we had was this over-sized hallway leading to our kid’s bedrooms:
So what to do with the space? We happen to have three cuties that are all of school-age and/or arts and crafts age, so I decided to swap out this space into a Kid’s Homework Area complete with triple homework station. So I started off by creating a Mood Board to get inspired:

And I created a 3D Perspective Mock-up of the space. I decided on adding a shiplap wall along with three sconces, one for each work station. The entire wall would be taken up by a triple homework station, complete with monogram pillows, a swiss cross rug, and lots of farmhouse charm:
After six weeks of construction (a shiplap wall and rustic wideplank hickory floors) and decorating, including a couple of DIY projects:

…it was finally done! Check out some of the “afters” of the project:

So that was this Spring. But what room now? The answer was painfully obvious. It is the worst room of our entire house. The most embarrassing. The one that I couldn’t adjust or transform or update to save it…an entire gut job was needed. Curious? Okay, deep breath, here it is.
Welcome to my bathroom:
Let’s break it down:
Worn our clay tile flooring
Over-the-top hand painted clay tiles on the:
vanity
mirror
counter top
cabinet pulls
shower
toilet paper holder
towel bar
switch plate covers
Do you see a theme here? The entire bathroom is covered top-to-bottom in this Mexican hand-painted clay tile theme. Oh, except for the parts not covered in (ugg) wallpaper. And I’ll let you in on a secret-behind the door is a full-sized sauna. Like me and my three BFFs can all fit in there together. Super bizarre. But I have big old plans for this room. Think peaceful, traditional, and filled with neutral colors and glimmery polished nickel accents. Something sophisticated yet fun (and functional) enough for our three kiddos.
I would love for you to follow me along in this journey over the next six weeks! I’ll show you tutorials and where to get a high-end look with less costly substitutes. I hope you will end up with a myriad of ideas of your own to show your own bathroom some loving too.
