Welcome to the Postbox Designs 30 Day Design Challenge! For the next 30 Days I will share a daily DIY project, mini makeover, or design idea, that you can implement in your own home. These are meant to be simple, do-able, and affordable! As you follow along with me, I would LOVE to hear feedback, or see your projects. Feel free to add your comments below or email at kristin@postboxdesigns.com. For the entire month of March, let’s take on this 30 Day Design Challenge together and by the time Spring Break comes, you will have a whole new home!
So for Day 1, we are going to tackle something to keep you organized. One of the most stressful things for me as a mom is the feeling of being unorganized. Anyone else know the feeling of rushing around for your keys that you lost (again), or the frantic search for your phone just to find it dead, under the couch cushion? And then being late for carpool? A mudroom is a fantastic place to create an entire command center. But if you don’t have one: you are still in luck! You can create a “drop station” with only a few inches of space. You can put it in the kitchen, laundry, entry, etc. Just try to choose an area near the door you use most often, and follow these simple steps.
So if you are tight in space or in budget, try this mini drop station:
Step 1: Start with an office organizer or tray, and put it by the door you use most often. Every day when you come home: your keys, hubby’s wallet, loose change, phone, etc. go straight into the tray. No exceptions!
Step 2: If possible, place it near an outlet to create a charging station for your devices. Style #3 is meant to store multiple phones, IPads, and other devices.
Step 3: Bonus points if you choose an organizer with a mail slot. When you walk in the door, at a minimum toss out the junk mail and put the important mail here. You can go through it later, but it saves from creating piles of mail scattered on your countertops! If you have the room, place a small trash/recycling can…drop the junk mail in there before you even take another step!
Step 4: If you have some extra wall space, add a few hooks for your purse or bag, or car keys.
The goal here is to have a mini place where you “drop” it all in the same place, every day. Learn to love your organizer! If you need a more in-depth Command Center, just wait for Day 16 where I show you how to take this a step further into a full blown Command Center. Check back tomorrow, where I show you how to create a mini mudroom, that you can put practically anywhere in your home!
