I remember in college when I learned how to knit. My little sis showed me, and explained that a scarf was the beginner’s project of choice for a novice knitter. It was simple to make, but yet beautiful and highly functional. A table runner is like the beginner sewer’s project. It involves minimum sewing, no special techniques, and you only need the most basic supplies.
Still not convinced you can do it? I have a link below to a NO SEW option…woohoo! Over the news I have made about a dozen table runners. I pull out certain ones for each season, and I have actually made several for my kiddo’s birthday parties. A yard or two of fabric never made a bigger impact! This is one of those places where you can buy a to-die-for expensive fabric because you need so little. (Just choose one that is washable, you don’t want to worry about dry cleaning after pizza night!)
So I chose inexpensive fabrics from one of my favorite fabric stores www.fabric.com , (you can find these all under $10/yard) but again, here is the perfect place to use a dream, uber expensive fabric, because you need so little of it. Be sure to wash it before starting, then pin, and just sew a simple running stitch all the way around the border.
And here is the tutorial I promised, so that EVERYONE can do this day’s Challenge! The no-sew tutorial is found over at Involving Color . And if you are looking for a table runner with a different look try out a couple of these options below:
