My best friend had a motto when she was dating: “There are a million fish in the sea, you only need to hook one”. Likewise, there are a million (fabulous) design ideas flying at you every time you log onto Pinterest or open a magazine. It can be overwhelming. But you only need to hook one great design idea to really make a room shine.
That’s right. One thing. If a room has one “wow” focal point, that is where you eye goes. It is what everyone talks about. It’s the one piece where everyone asks you where you got it. Your eyes can skim over the rest of the room, but it is “that” piece you remember. So, while we all want a designer perfect space, you don’t need to spend a fortune making every corner of your room picture perfect. In my family room, it is “Bessie”, a bold piece of artwork that almost everyone asks about when they walk into the room. Better yet, I L-O-V-E Bessie, she makes me smile when I walk past her!
Need some more examples? Don’t get me wrong: every single one of these rooms is beautiful! But each has ONE main focal point that really draws your eye in…
Try to visualize the room without it! Not quite the same is it? An inexpensive DIY wood plank project makes you remember this nursery.
Yah, if you have a windmill in your house, no one’s gonna remember your faded couch! I actually had so much fun helping a client find a windmill for her dining room-I guarantee that will be the piece EVERYONE remembers in her space!
One roll of super luxe wallaper is a little splurge for the high impact it makes:
You could spend thousands on amazing plumbing fixtures or drop a couple hundred dollars on a killer mirror. I love the pop of color to boot.
I love those striped curtains, they totally make the room, don’t you think? If they had left the curtains white, it wouldn’t be nearly as memorable.
I love this! My eye skims right over the furniture and goes directly to that great oversized map!
