Modern Boho Dining Room Makeover
Hi friends! Welcome back to Postbox Designs, a full custom E-Design company. After working in the traditional interior design world for about 11 years, I started Postbox Designs to help clients who are frankly…just as busy as I am! As a mom to three, I have a crazy schedule and am always looking for online solutions that will save me time. Like, my Amazon Prime app is my #1 BFF these days! With online interior design I custom design my clients rooms virtually, then send them their entire room-inside-a-box, called a “Postbox”. It is full of their drawings, shopping lists, step-by-step instructions, material samples and more.
They can purchase their entire room in an hour, over a cup of coffee.
Online Interior Design with Sonder
Fun, right? Recently I put the whole Interior E-Design process to the test by pairing up with Sonder, who has amazing vacation rentals in some of the biggest and best cities around the country. In just a week, I custom designed this entire two bedroom apartment for the Chicago location. (I may or may not have designed it sitting by a lake in my swim suit!!!) I sent all of the drawings and shopping lists to the client, where they purchased and set everything up.
Modern Boho Living Room & Dining Room Makeover
If you missed it, earlier this week I unveiled the Living Room Makeover portion of this project. If you missed it, you can check it out right here:

Modern Boho Dining Room Makeover
And today I wanted to show you how the Dining Room Makeover portion of the project turned out! Like many big city living spaces, this apartment had a small floor plan where every square inch had to be used to the fullest. The Living Room and Dining Room share the same open space, so they had to flow together with the same style.
Here is what the Living Room/Dining Room space looked like before:
Modern Boho Dining Mood Board
And here was the Modern Boho Dining Room Mood Board I created for the space! To save precious floor space, I designed the Dining Room with the table pushed against the wall. The modern dining room table has simple, sleek lines to make the space feel larger. And these iconic wishbone style chairs offer a similar, modern airy look. But I fell hard for the twist on these chairs-the two-tone look makes them feel a bit special and different.
A simple Boho rattan chandelier and fun, vintage style bus print add in the bright, colorful bohemian style. These inexpensive gold chandlesticks from Target create a simple centerpiece and pulls in the gold accents from the adjacent Living Room. Finally, this textured, chunky jute rug adds a natural touch to the space-also an element of the Boho style.

And here is the finished look! When you have a small space footprint, pushing the table against the wall like this saves on floor space. I always tell my clients to design for how you like 90% of the time-in this case it would be seating for up to four people. However, if they are hosting a larger dinner party, they could still pull out the table to temporarily host six.
In this case we ended up using the rug in the Living Room instead of the Dining Room. However, if you add a rug under the Dining Room table, be sure it is large enough so that the chairs can stay on the rug after being fully pulled out. In this case, we were sure to keep enough space between the rug and dining room chairs so the chairs wouldn’t conflict with the rug. This gives an easy walking area around the furniture.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match woods and finishes, especially with an open floor plan. This combined Living Room/Dining Room area has lots of layers of different textures and woods to keep it interesting. By adding a few consistent elements (shiny gold accents and natural jute/rattan elements) pulls the two rooms together.

And best yet, this whole Chicago apartment makeover was done on a small budget! I invested the biggest part of the budget into a great quality West Elm Sofa, but sprinkled in inexpensive pieces from places like Target, All Modern, and Etsy. I’m a big believer that you can have great design on ANY budget, and this makeover is proof of that.
So there you go! You can keep the decor simple and understated but still get a dramatic effect. Just six elements created this Boho Dining Room makeover:
Online Interior Design for your Home
All Postbox Designs does is custom Interior E-Design. And while some E-Design companies simply email over some Mood Boards, I create an entire room-inside-a-box and mail it to you. Inside are all of the drawings you need, including Mood Boards, detailed Floor Plans, 3D renderings, Shopping Lists, step-by-step instructions, and even material samples. I package up your entire room and mail it to you! And no worries-I walk with you through the entire process from ordering your items and pulling everything together.
This was a recent Traditional Living Room Makeover for a fun client in Florida, including a snap shot of what came in her actual Postbox. (Plus you can check out the whole makeover right HERE if you want to see the final designs).
I work with fixed priced, flat fee Room Packages so you know exactly what you will be spending upfront.
