If you have been a grown-up for more than a year you KNOW our laundry rooms are the unsung heroes of any house. They keep us clean and clothed…and most of them are stuck in an unfinished basement (mine!) or aren’t getting a lot of decor love. If you spend as much time in your laundry room as I do, then let’s make it at least a beautiful setting. Which brings me to this week’s post:
I have a one day project for you. No major tools. No construction. On a budget.
I actually created two of these custom Mood Boards for the readers of Remodelaholic, where I am a monthly contributor. But today I want to share it with you guys as well. And I have have not one, not two, but THREE ways you can create a budget friendly Farmhouse Laundry Room.
Budget Farmhouse Laundry Room Makeover: 3 Different Ways
Makeover #1: Budget Farmhouse Laundry Room
I’m going to share three different Budget Friendly Laundry Room Mini Makeovers with you: All of these laundry room makeovers are uber budget friendly, require little to no tools, and all of these updates can be done on a single Saturday. Whoa. That is a lot of bang for your buck!
But let’s start with this newest Farmhouse Laundry Room Mini Makeover! You can find the entire source list for this laundry room on the original Remodelaholic post I wrote here:
Farmhouse Laundry Room Source List
Flooring: These peel and stick vinyl floor tiles are meant to look like the cement tiles made famous by Fixer Upper: they are inexpensive and easy to install, plus will work perfect in a wet environment. If you want to further warm up the space, this jute rug is naturally dirt resistant and is a total workhorse.
Butcherblock Countertops: If you are using front loaders, install a simple wood countertop(like this pre-finished one for under $200) over your appliances. This creates a folding area, plus area to store laundry baskets. If you are using a sink, create a step-down like the Studio McGee image below.
Lighting: Surface mount ceiling lights are fairly easy to swap out-using a farmhouse metal light is a budget friendly upgrade.
Laundry Baskets: I love these oversized canvas bins on wheels: they can be wheeled around to collect or return laundry. Plus you can easily push them in and out of your storage area.
Accessories: Fun farmhouse accessories make this space feel as styled as the rest of your home. This wood Laundry Room sign adds Farmhouse charm. (PS: Get the tutorial + template to make your own here.)
And what is the galvanized bucket for? Use this as a beautiful trash bin (for lint, loose debris, etc.) Or store tools like clothespins or dryer sheets inside.
Hooks: Use these hooks to hang clothing that needs special attention, such as air-dry or dry clean only items.
Paint: Laundry Rooms are typically small and even windowless, so keep your Farmhouse Laundry Room bright and airy with white paint. I used Benjamin Moore’s “Simply White” in this space. Paint your walls in a Bath/Kitchen grade paint for easy to clean walls.
Makeover #2: Industrial Farmhouse Laundry Room
This is actually a past Laundry Room design I also created for Remodelaholic and has a neutral, industrial look to it. It still has a lot of the Farmhouse charm with the woods, metals, pale gray walls, and (peel and stick!) faux subway tiles. Yet it has more modern than rustic touches to it.

And like our very first Laundry Room, this one is also full of budget friendly ideas and simple updates that will upgrade your boring Laundry Room into a beautiful space that (almost) makes you want to fold laundry. If we stuck a TV in there so I could binge watch Netflix I think I would be sold on this whole laundry thing!
Makeover #3: Modern Farmhouse Laundry Room
And last but not least, is our final budget friendly Farmhouse Laundry Room Makeover! This laundry room design has some minor construction projects that are some simply DIY upgrades, such as building this laundry room storage/folding table from items found at your local big box store. Real subway tiles (at just 22 cents each) add Farmhouse charm and a custom look, as opposed to the vinyl version in Laundry Room #2. This laundry room also features inexpensive vinyl woodgrain tile, gold accents, and moody navy walls. So many laundry room designs lack sufficient lighting, but I found a way to bring in farmhouse lighting without an electrician with these metal plug-in sconces.

Farmhouse Laundry Room Inspirations
And if three different Farmhouse Laundry Room designs isn’t enough, I’m going to leave you with some dreamy laundry room eye candy. Can you tell I really, really want a laundry room makeover myself?! Here are some Farmhouse Laundry Rooms that caught my eye and helped inspire my Mood Boards I shared with you today:
This all white Laundry Room has an airy cottage feel with white cabinets, butcher blocks, and a space saving stacked appliances. It also has a similar Farmhouse rolling laundry basket as included in Farmhouse Laundry Room #1.

I have always loved this rustic Laundry Room from Twelve on Main! It inspired to me add subway tiles (whether real or stick on), shown in two of my Laundry Room Mood Boards. And Laundry Room #3 includes all of the components to create a similar folding counter/laundry basket storage.

Studio McGee can do no wrong. And this Farmhouse laundry room design with shiplap and rustic light fixtures is dead on. If you have side-by-side front loaders AND a sink cabinet in your laundry room, you will want to pay attention to this design. They are showing a way to drop down the counter to allow for the differences in height, while still looking beautiful.

I fell hard for this neutral Farmhouse Laundry Room by Jenna Sue years ago. Gray cabinets, inexpensive wood tops, and a simple ledge to display artwork make this room feel homey. She is showing wired metal sconces, but if you don’t want to bring in an electrician, try the plug-in metal sconces I found in Laundry Room #3!

Custom Online Interior Design
While I work with my clients on just about any room of their home with Postbox Designs, I still have a special place in my heart for the Kitchen, Bathroom, Laundry Room, and Mudrooms of our homes! For over a decade I worked as an interior designer at a high-end remodeling company designing $100K kitchens and other architectural designs. And believe me, it was a lot of fun! But now I use that experience to help my clients with their new builds or remodels with my special “Finishes Only” Room Packages. I help you choose all of the materials and fixtures for your space. Everything from plumbing fixtures, tile, floor, lighting, hardware, countertops, etc….I include it all. Then they simply pass their designs and Shopping Lists onto their contractors and let their project begin! This package also works great if you are going to do the work yourself and just need help creating the look and selecting all of the elements.
This is an example of a Farmhouse Kitchen I designed for a wonderful client in Colorado. They are building their dream house and had no idea where to start, so I helped her with her Kitchen and Master Bathroom to create the Modern Farmhouse look they loved. Everything was done using sources local to them and accessible to their builder. Here is a peek at their Kitchen design:
You can check out all of my Room Packages and How Postbox Designs Works to see all of the ways we can work together. Or want to chat more about your specific project? You can always get in touch with me at kristin@postboxdesigns.com and we can talk all about you!
I’ll see you back here next week for Week #4 of the One Room Challenge, where I’m in the middle of updating my very own Master Bedroom Suite…wish me luck!

I’m subscribed to you Free Resources but don’t see the laundry room source list anywhere. There seems to be just one scrollable page of resources, or am I missing something? At the top is 7 modern prints, at the bottom is a bedroom shopping list, no laundry room in between … ?

Hi Pat, Thank-you SO much for commenting on that…I just looked it up and you were completely right. I just popped in there and adjusted the settings so now you can see the Laundry Room post (and several others) that were being hidden. It should all be updated now, but if you have any questions, feel free to reach out again. Thanks! Kristin
