One Room Challenge Week #3:
The Pink Sofa + Wall Art
Hey guys, it is Kristin from Postbox Designs, and this week is a special blog post. Today I’m showing you a peek into my very own home. Usually I’m here sharing my Interior E-Design client’s projects, but right now I’m in the middle of my very own project! One Room Challenge is a six week design challenge that happens twice a year…and it is the perfect chance to actually tackle a room in my own house. And this time around I’m making over my seven year old daughter Adelyn’s bedroom.
In case you missed it, I got a lot of work done in Weeks #1 and #2:
Week #1: The Design Reveal + Grab the Free Plan & Shopping List
Week #2: My $69 DIY Light Fixture Tutorial
She wanted a “horse and unicorn” bedroom, with a big old dose of pink and glam. She might be my toughest client yet, but this week she was beyond thrilled. Why?
Because the pink sofa arrived.
The Piece of Furniture I Have Been Waiting For Weeks to Use
From the moment I knew I was going to tackle Adelyn’s bedroom for One Room Challenge, I knew what piece of furniture HAD to be in her room. Yup, baby girl is now the proud owner of a pink sofa! I actually had a fabulous client use this same sofa in her daughter’s playroom and I fell hard for it, and knew it would be a perfect fit for my little girl. It is going to double up as her reading nook AND it pulls out as a bed for sleepovers. Double win.
Before I started working on her bedroom makeover, I created this design for the Gallery Wall over her new pink sofa. While I have changed up some of the elements a bit, this was the plan I began with:
In case you missed it, last week I shared my $69 DIY Light Tutorial, so the light was hung last week. This week we put together the sofa, and I framed all of the artwork I had purchased. If you want to see all of the sources for the sofa and art, the whole Design Plan + Shopping List is hanging out in my FREE RESOURCE LIBRARY.
I started with hanging the largest print (this pretty pink horse) centered over the sofa. Then I spaced out the frames about 2-3″ apart. I purposefully chose two vertical prints and two horizontal prints to flank my oversized 24″x36″ print. These four smaller frames are 16″x20″ in size.
And here are all of the prints hung up in the Gallery! I wanted artwork that was whimsical and charming, and worked with her requested theme of horses and unicorns.
And while this tufted pink sleeper sofa is adorable all on its own, I wanted to make it extra cushy and comfy with a pile of pillows. I grabbed a huge assortment from Pottery Barn Kids, Crate and Kids, and Target, so I could see which would work the best in her bedroom makeover.
Which are your favs?
The very first pillow I purchased was this sweet little unicorn doll, so I knew she had to be part of the room. (Plus, remember the requested “horse and unicorn” theme?) Check and check.
Taking a quick break from pillow decisions….
And back to work! I played around with different combos of pillows, and finally went with this combination. So now baby girl has a comfy reading nook, a fun whimsical light, and a sweet-as-sugar gallery of girly-girl artwork.
So here it is! I think this is going to be her new favorite spot in her new bedroom. In fact, we just tried it out with our first snuggle bedtime reading…a perfect fit. However, we had to have a bit of a talk because she immediately told her big brother and sister that they could NOT sit on her sofa, it was only for her. Cue the eye roll. Don’t worry…this isn’t for her tush only.
Pillows are one of my favorite things to add fun pattern and charm to any room. This sweet little Crate and Kids ballerina pillow was the cutest thing I ever did see:
Choosing the right pillows and artwork are harder than you think…someone else needs a break….
What’s Going on in the Bedroom Makeover for One Room Challenge Week #4?
So, I have ordered everything for Adelyn’s new bedroom. And the hallway is filled to the brim with boxes of everything that needs to make its way into her room. Last week I created and hung (with my hubby’s help) her new light fixture. I also got the whole room painted. And this week was all about the pink sofa and hanging her Wall Gallery.
So what will I be up to next week?
Next week I’m pulling out her existing bed and putting together her brand new Wayfair spindle bed. And I’m pulling out all of that beautiful new bedding from the boxes they have been hanging out in for the last two weeks!
My Best Tip for Creating a Wall Gallery
As any of my clients know, I’m a HUGE fan of the digital downloads from Etsy. Every single one of these prints is from there-you can get gorgeous, unique artwork for just a few dollars. You purchase the digital image, and then print if off yourself. The other reason I love these digital downloads, is you can print them off to just about any size you want. Have you ever played the “find the right size frame” game? Yup, finding the right sized frame to go with the right sized artwork can be a huge pain, and it never seems to work out for me. So with her Gallery Wall, I decided the layout and the size frames I wanted. THEN I printed off her artwork to the right size for my frames. Just as a reminder, you can find the Shopping List for everything you see in my daughter’s room in my FREE RESOURCE LIBRARY. When you sign up, you will get an email with the link and password to access not only her bedroom design, but dozens of Design Freebies, Guides, Shopping Lists, and more.
And just as a reminder of where we started for Week #1 with the design inspiration for baby girl’s bedroom makeover:
A Huge Thank-You
And a huge, big thank-you to all of my sponsors who have helped me pull together my Adelyn’s dream room.
Wayfair Rugs USA Ramen Hands Handy Paint
And of course, a huge thank-you to Linda from Calling It Home, who is the genius behind the whole One Room Challenge. Be sure to check out the hundreds of other designers who are all participating in this challenge right here at One Room Challenge
I’ll see you back here for Week #4 where I’m pulling together her bed, her bedding, and finally putting in her new rug. It is going to be fun!

HI Ashley, Thanks so much! You can find links to all of the prints I used by signing up for my Free Resource Library (www.postboxdesigns.com/subscription-page) where you can view the whole Shopping List + Mood Boards for this room for free! I used the 16″x20 white Snap frames from Target for the four smaller prints. The middle print is a 24″x36″ in a white poster frame. Hope that helps! 🙂 Cheers, Kristin
