Postbox Designs KIDS: Interior E-Design Just for Kid Rooms
It has arrived! E-Design Exclusively for Kid Rooms
Hi friend, today is an extra special day to come hang out with me! I’m introducing the launch of Postbox Designs KIDS! Over four years ago, I started Postbox Designs, where I exclusively work with Interior E-Design for my fabulous clients all over the country. But after awhile I realized that my #1 room request was Kid Rooms. Playrooms, Nurseries, Kid Bedrooms, Kid Bonus Room Spaces. And it makes sense-the majority of my clients are women with kids at home. So for the last year I have been working behind the scenes to create Postbox Designs Kids-it is the same custom design services you are used to, but with a kid-friendly twist.
And to celebrate the launch of Postbox Designs KIDS I’m sharing this fun Playroom/Bonus Room/Homework Station makeover with you!
Kid Rooms: Check out this Colorful Playroom Design
This Mama reached out to me because they had a room that had to work hard with multiple duties, they wanted a space where their kids could do the following:
Playroom & Toy Storage
Homework Station
Reading Nook
Lounge Area/TV/Video Game Area
Second Table for Crafts/Eating
So what did we come up with? This colorful and playful Playroom Design with a loose “Adventure theme” to it:
Kid Rooms Must Haves: Desk or Homework Station
My client wanted a desk area for her son and needed a lot of storage space to go along with it. As part of her Pinterest board she created for me, she found this Inspirational Image (#1) with a desk and tall storage on either side. So we re-created our own custom version of it. I started with this fun yellow (and gender neutral) desk (#2) and modern Target desk chair (#10). Then we flanked it on either side with these tall storage units from Pottery Barn Kids (#5). This storage unit is called the “Cameron” and it is one of my favorite pieces-I love the combination of drawers and doors with a lot of HIDDEN storage to stash school supplies, art supplies, and even toys.
Also similar to her Inspirational Image (#1), we placed a giant bulletin board (#16) in between the two storage units. The kid can showcase all of their artwork here. And to add some fun elements, we added two triangle felt garlands (#24) and a fun Adventure felt pennant (#3) over the bulletin board.
Kid Sofa & TV Watching Area
My client also wanted a comfy place for the kids to curl up and watch a movie, or for her son to play video games with his friends. This West Elm sofa (#6) has a “Performance Fabric” on it to help repel dirt and stains. Then we piled on fun and colorful pillows (#11-15) that has a multitude of colors and kept with our “Adventure theme”. We layered on this colorful area rug (#7) for extra play space, or comfy place for friends to sit on the foor.
To make the most of her floor plan space, I floated the sofa in the middle of the room to allow space for a long, skinny table and barstools behind it (#28 and #29). This table can allow the kids to eat snacks…without missing a second of their movie!
Creating an Eating & Craft Table in a Kid Rooms
My client also had the idea of having a second table that could work for eating or even a secondary craft table, and she found this Inspirational Image (#27). By placing these skinny tables (#28) behind the sofa, it worked perfectly for a snack table. These brightly colored metal stools (#29) can tuck under the table to maximize floor space. I love using metal chairs/stools with kids because they are easy to wipe down for spills and are super durable.
Kid Reading Nook
My client also wanted a sweet little reading nook for her kids, but we needed something slim that wouldn’t take up a lot of floor space. So we used this Target canopy (#17) and tufted floor pillow (#23) to put inside the canopy. This created a secret little tucked away spot for reading or snuggling!
Adventure Playroom Design Details
Artwork is one of the easiest (and least expensive) ways to add in a theme or color into a kid room design. To keep up with the “Adventure theme”, we added artwork like this world map (#30), a series of globes (#20 & #21), US map art (#4), “Adventure” print (#26) and a felt pennant (#3).
How to Layout a Playroom Design for Your Kids
One of the trickiest things for most parents looking to design their Playroom, is how to fit everything into one small space! As you can see, we had to fit a LOT of functions into this one small room. So I included the floor plan to give you some ideas of how to layout a Playroom design. We put the desk and storage units against one wall. Then we floated the sofa with the snack table directly behind it. This allowed for the TV area directly across the sofa. And finally we tucked away the “reading nook” into the corner.
And once my client got her first Playroom Design?
“Hi Kristin! Thank you so much, this is adorable!!! I love the design and the decor. You did such a nice job of drawing from things I pinned on Pinterest to create a unique look that we all love! I showed my son and he was very excited! 😀 Thank you so much for your help! I never would have thought of placing the couch that way!”
Postbox Designs KIDS: Interior E-Design for Kid Rooms
I bet you have that “one” room in your house. You know the one-the one you can never quite wrap your mind around. Or you can’t get it to look the way you want, even after scouring Pinterest for ideas. Or maybe you are busy Mama and just don’t have the time or energy to create the perfect design for your kid rooms.
I’m here to help. I’m a Mom of 3, so I’m a firm believer in:
Real Designs for Real Life
That means a room your kids can actually live in (without destroying) and practical solutions for kid items, while still creating fun and beautiful spaces. No “look-but-don’t-touch” rooms here!
How Does Postbox Designs KIDS Work?
I offer three different ways to work on your kid’s room with me. You can check out the Room Packages & Pricing. Once you choose your Room Package, I send you a Welcome Packet. Inside is a Design & Budget Questionnaire, along with a template and instructions for photographing and measuring your space.
But I also want your kids to be involved in the process (if they are old enough), so I also included a Kid Questionnaire and a template where they can draw their dream room. Don’t worry: Mom and Dad still have final veto power!
Once I get everything back, I create your custom design in about a week. I send it to you via email to get your feedback, then we go through a round of revisions.
Then I send your Room-Inside-a-Box directly to you! Inside are all of your drawings, Floor Plans, Shopping Lists, step-by-step instructions, and material & paint samples. I also include a fun surprise for your kiddo so they can be part of the process!
