Two Girl Playroom Designs
Take Your Pick: 1 Modern + 1 Farmhouse
Hi Friends, Welcome to Postbox Designs Interior E-Design I’m so glad you are here! Like many of us, this past year has brought a lot of crazy (homeschooling, quarantines, and daily Amazon deliveries!) so I took a break for awhile from sharing posts. However, I’ve been busy behind the scenes working with my wonderful clients, designing their rooms all via Online Interior Design. And while I’ve been doing exclusively E-Design for the last five years, it has become especially wonderful when we can’t always be face-to-face.
And today I want to share not one, but two projects: two different Playroom designs for some sweet little girls!
Project #1: Modern Girl Playroom Design
I worked with this fabulous client on her Home Office design (which don’t we all need one of those these days?!). So I was thrilled when she reached out for help on her daughter’s Playroom Design. I loved the fact she wanted something a little different: modern and bold and still sweet. She already had some amazing artwork picked out, and wanted to incorporate that into the design.
We went for a pink and deep green color palette. This green Crate and Barrel dresser will actually be used for toy and craft storage. I have three kiddos of my own, and I have found that a dresser actually makes for amazing toy storage! (Drawers tend to stay more organized then doors where everything gets crammed in and forgotten…at least in my home). A fuzzy Article boucle chair with a green velvet ottoman makes for a reading corner.
And a huge request was a desk area for homework and arts and crafts. This West Elm desk has a lot of storage, and makes for a sleek and modern look that she can use into her teen years. I do always recommend purchasing a clear protector when you have younger kids. Framed artwork and an art cable allows for her to display her own projects in an ever rotating display.
An easy way to add extra storage is a rolling art supply cart-I would absolutely use one of these in my house! And the other request from their daughter was a chalkboard to create art. Finally, a mix of green, pink, and gold accessories make this space fun and girly, while still keeping it modern.
Project #2: Farmhouse Playroom Design
And for project #2: here is another Playroom design with a girly girl theme. This Playroom was designed for twin girls-how fun is that? And this Mom had a specific request, that I hear quite a bit. This room has beautiful French doors and is easily seen from the majority of the home. Therefore, Mom wanted a space that WAS a Playroom but didn’t LOOK like a Playroom. She wanted a neutral space that would work with the rest of the Farmhouse decor of the rest of the house.
A Playroom doesn’t have to look like a rainbow threw up inside. And see how…
The focal point of this room was a combination storage and reading nook area, similar to Inspirational picture #1. To keep things budget friendly, I suggested a combination of Ikea storage: two tall towers with a tower laid on its side to go in between.
For the tall towers I recommended a combo of closed drawer storage (great to hide clutter) and open baskets (cute and easy for the girls to grab). I used a mix of these woven baskets and sweet pom pom bins.
Then by laying the tower horizontally in the center, we can create a reading nook with storage under it. I suggested to layer on a cushion and some farmhouse striped and plaid pillows on top.
And for a personal touch, I found an Etsy shop that will create custom silhouettes of her girls to go over their reading area.
And while I kept everything very neutral, I definitely wanted the girls to get some sparkle and fun. This glitter pillow, unicorn pillow and crown pillow, and some fun but neutral artwork brings in their love for princesses and unicorns.
And this final page of the Mood Board shows my clients the components to create her storage and reading nook area, along with some other finishing details.
A huge part of my projects is also creating a Floor Plan for my clients. When you have a big empty room, it can be tough to know how to arrange everything. So all of my Room Packages include Mood Boards, Shopping Lists, and a Floor Plan, along with step-by-step directions of how to pull it all together.
