Desert Boho Playroom: For the Littles
Welcome back! If you are here for Part II of this Desert Boho house makeover, I’m showing the second room I tackled with my amazing client: a combo Dining Room & Playroom for her little girl.
But to back things up: if you are new around here, I’m so glad you found me! I’m Kristin, Mom to 3, lover of all things carbs, and if you can’t find me hiking around my beloved Lake Michigan, you can definitely catch me curled up watching Gilmore Girl re-runs. I’m the owner of Postbox Designs Interior E-Design and around here, I’m all about “Real Designs for Real Life”. I love Insta as much as the next girl, but I also want rooms my clients can LIVE in and love years from now.

But we are moving on to the next room for this week…
Desert Boho Playroom: How To Make Grown Up & Kid Styles Mix
With this house, due to space and layout, we wanted to make the Dining Room and Playroom in a combined room off the very front of the house…which meant a few things. The last thing you want to invite guests into is a messy, kid centric playroom. Plus since this will also double as their family Dining Room, everything had to be cohesive, so I wanted to show you all how you can definitely mix in the two:
Desert Boho Playroom Tip 1: Double Duty Furniture
Since this was going to double as the Dining Room we obviously needed…a table and and chairs. But even though this took up a lot of the floor space, it was worth it, because this doubles as a homework spot, a craft table, and a place to do puzzles and play doh. I would say any kiddo over the age of 4 is about at that age where toys and activities start to go from floor play to table play. These beautiful modern Danish set works for grown ups and kiddos alike.
Desert Boho Playroom Tip 2: Hide the Toys
Hiding the toys is the #1 tip if you have a Playroom that needs to double up as another room or doesn’t have a closed door. These modern toy towers from West Elm do the trick perfectly! Side note: did you know West Elm has a kids line? I’ll wait so you can check it out HERE
Desert Boho Playroom Tip 3: Use a great rug
This rug gives a comfy place to play AND pulls everything together.
Desert Boho Playroom Tip 4: Bring in some fun!
This IS a playroom so I wanted to bring in some fun elements like these velvet round throw pillows. They can be set on the chairs and stacked for a cozy reading area for their daughter. Fun artwork (not shown) and whimsical patterns that are neutral work for parents and kids alike. The arch decal (#6) is removeable and brings in some rosy colored fun.
