Budget Modern Farmhouse Living Room Makeover: Part II
Welcome back to Postbox Designs, where I combine technology with personal interior design services to create custom, beautiful rooms for my clients at a low, fixed fee. If you are familiar with how we do things over here, every Room Package comes with TWO different designs that are made to mix-and-match. Even though I’ve been an interior designer for 12+ years now the changes of nailing the first design perfectly are slim. So I send my clients their first design then get their feedback and thoughts…and use that to create their second design. It is a unique process that I found to work really well. The other unique thing about my Interior E-Design is not only do my clients get their digital designs, but they also get an actual Postbox: a room-inside-a-box delivered to them chock full of all the goodies needed for their room! It is really so much fun. You can check out How It Works: it is an easy 3 Step Process that gets you your new room in just two weeks!

In fact this is a photo I snapped as I was sending out her Postbox from the Post Office! It was stuff full of both designs, her Shopping Lists, Floor Plans, and materials of her paint and floor:

It is like choosing a favorite child…which version to go with? Okay, maybe I’m being a tad dramatic! But it really is a lot of fun to go back and improve the design and make it even better. After chatting with my client she wanted to see a version with a sectional sofa (I own this Ikea Ektorp sectional-it is a steal and perfect for families), and I layered in more Modern Farmhouse accents like these boho poufs, Etsy farmhouse pillows, a lightly patterned, super affordable rug from Rugs USA, and rustic coffee table from Target. Because we are adding the “modern” to Modern Farmhouse style these industrial sconces and modern gray chair help give some sleekness to the space.
And if you are looking for affordable, family friendly art, look no further than this genius idea from Chris Loves Julia-here is the tutorial for blowing up your kiddo’s photos for beautiful artwork.
Modern Farmhouse Design Accessories
So we have the main furniture pieces…but accessories are what really bring your Modern Farmhouse Living Room to life. We used this beautiful image from Studio McGee (Item #13) to re-create this look on a budget. An inexpensive table topped with a Target $50 mirror and Project 62 set of lamps gives a great look at an affordable price. Large woven baskets from World Market help hide toys but are still accessible for the kids.

And if you have hung with me, you will know I’m a big ole fan of the coffee table tray. Place a single tray on your coffee table and then fill up with a little vignette. When it is time to clear away the table for movie night or a kid’s project all you have to do is move the tray and you are done. No re-arranging a coffee table decor grouping a million times. I do this at my own house. Total truth confession: most of the time my tray sits somewhere else since the kids are almost always taking over the coffee table for a Lego creation or snack time!!
You can leave your tray empty and corral items like remotes here. Or fill with simple items like #18 and #19 from Target’s Magnolia line-the best affordable place for Modern Farmhouse decor!
