Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover + Dining Room Design
Hi! Welcome to Postbox Designs where I exclusively focus on Online Interior Design, which means I can work with clients all over the country. I know, I seriously have the best gig in the world. I help my clients custom design their rooms, then I send them a “Postbox” full of their drawings, shopping lists, materials, and all of the goodies they need to pull together their room.
Then they can order their entire room in an hour without leaving home.
And recently I got to work with a wonderful client who was moving across the country to a new home in Florida. He reached out and asked me to design his Living Room, Kitchen, and Dining Room before even moving in. Soooo smart. Last week I shared this client’s Farmhouse Living Room Makeover and today I want to share the rest of the project with you!
My client is an amazing baker so he needed a Farmhouse Kitchen that was beautiful but also worked very efficiently for him:
Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover: Version #1
The first design for his Farmhouse Kitchen had rustic wood floors, soft gray kitchen cabinets, and a marble-like quartz top. Then we layered in some gold cabinet hardware, black iron lighting, and some rustic details like these wood cutting boards and barstools. I always have people ask me if you can mix and match finishes in a kitchen, and the short answer is….yes!
Personally, I like to go with a more classic finish with the plumbing fixtures, such as these chrome fixtures. Chrome is classic, the least expensive finish, and is the easiest to clean. Chrome and nickel go beautifully with black, so I layered in black light fixtures throughout his whole home. And finally, gold and brass are more of a trendy look. So I like to incorporate that into easy-to-replace gold cabinet hardware. And finally, every Farmhouse kitchen needs a deep farmhouse sink.
In this Farmhouse Kitchen, I also added in open rustic wood shelving and pops of buffalo plaid prints. Pale gray walls and classic white subway tile are classic elements that also keep the kitchen light and airy. For a dramatic pop, I suggested painting his existing pantry look this dark shade of gray.
Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover: Version #2
For all of my clients, I always create two different, mix-and-match designs for each room. And here is a peek into Version #2 of his Farmhouse Kitchen and adjacent Breakfast Nook:
A Rustic Farmhouse Kitchen
This Kitchen is also full of rustic Farmhouse touches, but has a slightly more rustic look. This kitchen has sturdier oil rubbed cabinet hardware and bronze bell-shaped lighting pendants. In this version, we also swapped out the gray cabinets with soft white kitchen cabinets. Since there is a lot of white with the cabinets, subway tile, and sink, this kitchen has gray quartz countertops.
Farmhouse Breakfast Nook Design: Version #1
Along with designing my client’s Kitchen, I also designed his adjacent Kitchen Breakfast Nook with a similar Farmhouse style. In this room, it started with this rustic wood and concrete small dining table, paired up with wood and metal cafe chairs. A simple Dining Room centerpiece are these rustic metal vases from Magnolia, filled with faux greenery. A rustic iron ring chandelier and patterned jute rug complete the look.
Farmhouse Breakfast Nook Design: Version #2
For Version #2 of this Farmhouse Breakfast Nook, my client wanted to keep all of the main pieces, so we just swapped out a few items. This Breakfast Nook design has a blue and jute striped rug, a Mangolia half dipped ceramic vase, and a more modern iron ring chandelier:
Farmhouse Dining Room Makeover
And the final part of my client’s three room makeover, we tackled his adjacent Dining Room. While it is slightly closed off from his open concept Kitchen and Living Room, it is directly adjacent to these rooms. Therefore, he wanted to keep the same rustic Farmhouse look carried into this new space. He requested a large, rustic dining room table that had leaves to extend. He also requested enough seating for large groups and parties. This farmhouse style trestle dining room table from Pottery Barn can seat a party, and paired up with these black X-back chairs are a great, neutral foundation. He did want to break up the look with softer, upholstered head chairs, and these extra tall ivory chairs create a dramatic focal point.
Then, we finished off the room with simple striped Pottery Barn curtains and an iron Ballard Designs over-sized chandelier. Having black light fixtures throughout the whole first floor is a unifying design trend that helps all of the rooms flow together. And finally….remember how I said he was an amazing baker and decorator? These fun baking inspired prints can be hung in a large Gallery Wall on the main wall of his Dining Room. Since he will occasionally use his Dining Room to actually TEACH baking and decorating classes, these prints are the perfect inspiration!
A Final Styled Farmhouse Look
I love, love, love it when I can help a client work on multiple rooms at once. This creates a home that not only flows, but is done ALL AT ONCE. I know when I moved into our new home, even I was a bit overwhelmed looking at all of the rooms that had to be filled with new furniture and decor. But when your main rooms are finished, and have a look you love…you can actually relax and enjoy your home. No matter your space, there is a Room Package that will work for you. And if you have a whole house you need help with? I offer a 10% discount off the total when you purchase three or more rooms at once…just like this client did.
