Girl Bedroom Design Part I: A Sneak Peek at the Final Look
Hi guys! I’m always excited to share a real Postbox Designs client makeover with you guys, but today I’m doubly excited. Since Postbox Designs is exclusively Online Interior Design, that means I work virtually with clients all over the country. So I don’t always get to see the finished “After” photos, but today I’m going to share a two part Little Girl’s Bedroom Makeover project with you…complete with the “After” photos in Part II. Today I’m going to share the designs and a sneak peek of the big reveal.
Update: You can see Part II with all of the pretty “After” photos right here:
Girl Bedroom Makeover: Part II
Two Complete Designs with Every Package.
I always create two different designs that are meant to mix-and-match for every project I work on. After completing Version #1, I send it to my clients to get their feedback and thoughts. Then I create a second design that can completely integrate with the first design. So my client can choose Version #1, Version #2, or a mix of both of them. These parents chose to do my Starter Package for their daughter’s bedroom makeover. Today I’m going to share both design versions with you.
Girl Bedroom Design: Version #1
These parents reached out to me a few months ago to help them design their three-year-old daughter’s bedroom. They wanted a sweet, girly look with some vintage charm such as a quilt and a Jenny Lind style bed. They also wanted just a touch of rustic charm since they live in Texas. But most importantly they wanted a bedroom with quality pieces of furniture and a design that could last their daughter for a long time.
Girl Bedroom Decor Pieces
Whether you are designing for a kid’s bedroom or a grown-up room, the best mixes are usually a combination of high and low, meaning mixing more expensive pieces in with some budget friendly finds. How did we combine high and low in this little girl’s bedroom design?
Splurge Girl Bedroom Design: The Furniture
Like I always suggest to all of my clients, I put the majority of the budget into well made furniture pieces that would not only work well with a three-year-old but when she grows up as well. This Jenny Lind bed, side table, and dresser are all quality pieces from Crate and Kids (formally Land of Nod) and Pottery Barn Kids. I don’t like to use full bedroom sets as it can be a little matchy-matchy so we mixed it up with a combination of painted and stained pieces.
Budget Girl Bedroom Decor
But we are talking about a three-year-old girl here, so you don’t want to fill the room with priceless pieces that you are going to worry about her ruining. Her parents wanted her to have fun in her bedroom, and it can be a space all of her own. So we also filled it with budget friendly items such as this quilt, throw pillows, pink medallion rug from Rugs USA, and this Target table lamp. When decorating for a kid’s bedroom you want items that are easy to wash, clean, and aren’t too precious.
Girl Bedroom Design: Budget Wall Decor Ideas
And one of my favorite places to save money in any room, but especially a kid’s bedroom is the wall decor. We wanted something fun, sweet, and whimsical for this little girls’ bedroom design. So for Version #1 I started with this trio of woodland animal prints from the Etsy shop Poppy and Jake. How sweet are these?! Another sweet art print for a girl’s bedroom, nursery design, or playroom design is this alphabet print from Willow and Berry. A few other wall decor pieces such as this oversized letter (you can use your child’s monogram or spell out a fun word) and book ledges fill up the walls at a great price point.
Girl Bedroom Storage Ideas
Whether it is for clothes, books, or toys, even child’s bedroom or playroom needs storage as a #1 priority.
Clothes Storage: The combination of the existing closest and this dresser (#11) provide sufficient storage for all of her clothes.
Nightstand Storage: I love, love, love using nightstands with at least one drawer. Kid’s have all sorts of little babbles and odds and ends they like to keep close (I should know, I have three kids of my own!). And having a drawer close by the bed gives them a space to store it all. Plus if your child does need some items nearby (a pacifier, glasses, a book to read), they are close by. You’ll see in the After photos, the parents also added a basket to the bottom shelf of this Pottery Barn Kids nightstand for even more storage.
Kid’s Toy Storage: This is probably the most important item in any child’s bedroom! I like using simple and inexpensive LOW bookshelves in a child’s bedroom. This Pottery Barn Kids version can be stacked with baskets (to coral little items), books, and any odd shaped toy. I strongly suggest using low bookcases or bookshelves when decorating a younger child’s bedroom as a safety item. P.S. Always secure large furniture items to the wall in a child’s bedroom or playroom space!
Book Storage: Book ledges are an amazing place to not only store books, but display them as their own wall decor. Children’s books are often brightly colored and fun, which makes them easy ways to decorate with what you already own. You are going to love how the parents styled their daughter’s book ledges (stay tuned for Part II!)
So here it is: Girl Bedroom Design Version #1:
Girl Bedroom Design Version #2
After I designed Version #1, I sent digital copies to my clients to see their girl’s bedroom design. While they really liked it, they also wanted to see a few specific things in the second bedroom design. They requested some art that showed some of their Texas pride, a quilt, and different furniture options.
Here is the second bedroom design:
Girl Bedroom Design Makeover: Adding In Some Rustic Charm
This whole bedroom design can mix-and-match with the first one. But I started with a different set of furniture such as this girl’s twin bed from Pottery Barn Kids, as well as this white dresser, also from PB Kids. Then I layered on some sweet little pieces that had a bit of the rustic charm they were looking for in their daughter’s bedroom design, without being over the top. This neutral white and black rug (#12), sweet Target pink quilt (#6), rustic sweet pillows (#7 and #8), antler print (#13), yarn garland (#14), and this adorable “My Roots Lie Here” Texas print. You can find this print yourself from the Etsy shop Gray Frames.
Creating a Gallery Wall in a Girl’s Bedroom Design
I suggested creating a sweet little Gallery Wall over her dresser. I included all of the items I suggested in the above Mood Boards, but I also wanted to give my client a step-by-step guide to creating this Gallery Wall from home. I created this Wall Elevation with all of the items drawn to scale and a list of what items to include, and what size prints and frames to purchase (not shown). A series of framed, inexpensive prints, a boho inspired yarn wall hanging, a heart shaped mirror, and a monogrammed wood plaque were all items included in this custom Gallery Wall.

Decorating Your Room with Online Interior Design
Is that not the sweetest little thing you ever did see? The parents took a combination of both designs and created this gorgeous room for their daughter, using everything in their Postbox. After I created both designs, I emailed digital copies to my clients, but also put together a physical Postbox that I mailed their room-inside-a-box directly to them. What all comes inside a Postbox?
Everything you need to order your room from home…in your PJs.
Mood Boards
Dimensioned Floor Plans
Shopping List (just click and buy!)
Step-by-Step Instructions
Material Samples
3D rendering or Elevation drawings (on select packages)
They purchased everything directly from their designs and Shopping List, and pulled together their daughter’s room on their schedule and budget. The best part was they selected their favorites from both designs to create a completely custom look.

Hello,
