One Room Challenge Week #5: It is All About the Bedding!
Hi friends! Welcome to Postbox Designs! Normally I’m popping over here sharing some of my Online Interior Design client projects, but this week we are taking a break…to show you one of my very own projects! Twice a year I participate in the six week One Room Challenge, where designers all over the country make over a room at the same time. And like the cobbler’s kids having no shoes…I use this as an excuse to actually get some much needed projects done around my own house! And this year I’m tackling my youngest kiddo’s bedroom. My little 7 year old daughter Adelyn requested a “Horse & Unicorn” bedroom. But Mom wanted a room free of glitter murals and hot pink ponies…so we compromised.

My Girl Bedroom Makeover: The First Four Weeks
If you missed any of the past weeks, here is your short cut to catch up:

Week 2: $69 DIY Light Fixture Tutorial
Week 3: Creating a Wall Gallery + The Pink Sofa Reveal!
Week 4: Ultimate Dresser Styling Guide + My Fav $2 Decor Item
And here is a peek of the part of her bedroom I have already worked on: her pink sofa (that folds out as a second bed for sleepovers) and here wall gallery full of fun girly girl artwork:
Week #5: Putting Together the Bedding
And now the most important part of any bedroom…the bed! I started with a white Jenny Lind style bed. The one I used is currently out of stock, but this Wayfair Jenny Lind twin bed is almost identical to the one I used in Miss A’s bedroom! And before I even knew I was going to makeover her room I stashed away these cute-as-a-button gold heart sheets, so I was thrilled to bust them out finally!
And of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the STAR of the show:
Meet Dolly the Llama. She has gorgeous eyelashes and loves Double Bubble.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t even ask my daughter if she wanted this in her room….I fell in love with it and knew I had to have it! (Luckily she loved it too. I think Dolly and my Adelyn have a similar sense of humor). Love her too? You can grab the Free Shopping List (scroll to the bottom to see where to get it).
How to Layer a Bed
I actually have people ask me quite a bit how to style a bed…how do you arrange it? How many pillows? What type? So here’s how we broke it down for Miss A’s new bedroom:
Girl Bedding Styling Step 1:
Add gold heart sheets and pink duvet set. Use the coordinating pink duvet sham in the back of the bed.
Girl Bedding Styling Step #2:
Add the coordinating gold heart sheet set pillow sham in front.
Girl Bedding Styling Step #3:
Add lumbar pillow. I liked this gold and cream one from Pottery Barn Kids.
Girl Bedding Styling Step #4:
Add fun accent pillow in front. I loved this faux fur pink pillow…also from Pottery Barn Kids.
Girl Bedding Styling Step #5:
Add a sweet stuffed animal. Remember the whole Unicorn theme? I bought this sweet unicorn stuffed animal before any of the rest of her bedding! Miss A has a new snuggle buddy:
Girl Bedding Styling Tip #6: Add a Quilt
And for the final touch, I added this sweet ruched ivory Pottery Barn Kids quilt folded up on the end of the bed.
And I’m still playing around with her final wall decor. I actually bought this sweet giraffe gold mirror off a friend for only $15…isn’t it the cutest? Even though it isn’t technically a unicorn or horse, I thought it would be really fun in her bedroom. Think it works in here?
Week #6: The Big Reveal
Next week is what we have been waiting for! If you are like me and like to watch only the last 10 minutes of your fav HGTV show just to see the big reveal…then come back next week. I’m going to spend this next week pulling in all of the finishing touches, adding some final wall decor, and pulling it all together. And next week I’ll show you the BIG REVEAL (and remind you of were we started).
