Creating the Perfect Guest Bedroom Your Holiday Guests Won’t Want to Leave (So Sorry!)
Hi friends, welcome to Postbox Designs! My name is Kristin, I’m a mama of 3, and I run my Interior E-Design company so I can help busy people create their perfect rooms without leaving home. Once I custom design their room, I send them their Room-Inside-A-Box with everything they need to pull together their room…right to their doorstep. But today I want to share a little something different with you!
It is November, which is the unofficial start of the Holiday Season! So not only does that mean parties, and baking, and gift buying…but it also means family and friends. And for you, it also might mean holiday overnight guests! I moved to Michigan from Indianapolis, so we are often hosting my parents for the weekend. And this year we are actually hosting Christmas at our house. So that means my whole family will be over at our place, and it takes a little extra effort to make sure everyone is comfortable.
So whether you will be hosting holiday overnight guests this season OR you know your could up your game with your Guest Bedroom, read on. I’m sharing my top tips for Creating the Perfect Guest Bedroom AND I’m sharing a Free Design to get you started.

Guest Bedroom Decor: Keep It Simple Friend
I want to start off by remind you of one thing.
You don’t need to be Martha Stewart this holiday season. Or any holiday season.
I don’t want to add extra stress to your life. And I’m not here to tell you to create a Pinterest worthy gift basket for every holiday guest. I’m a crazy busy Mom of three who barely has time to fold her laundry. I declare clean sheets as a victory! Instead, I want you to have some EASY tips and direct sources so you spend the minimal amount of time and energy to decorating your Guest Bedroom. That way, you will have more time and energy for the important thing: spending time with those guests.
Instead, this Guest Bedroom design is simple, neutral and will work for you all year long. Do it once and then forget it. The only thing you need to do in between guests is change those sheets!
Guest Bedroom Decor Tip #1: Use White Sheets
If you have spent any time around here, you know I am a HUGE fan of crisp, clean white sheets. I have them in my own Master Bedroom, and I often recommend them for my clients. They go with any decor and leave your Guest Bedroom with that coveted hotel-like quality. I only keep two sets of sheets for each bed. That way you can switch over your bedding quickly if you have to turn over your room. However, more than two sets just feels like a burden to me. Keep it easy friends! I love how Making Home Base used simple white sheets, then dressed it up with some cute throw pillows.
What Do I Use for My Very Own Bedroom?
Last year I shared the makeover of my very own Master Bedroom & Master Bathroom (you can check out the rest of this makeover right HERE). And I personally only use white sheets for my own bedroom. I love the simplicity of them, and how they coordinate with anything in the room. Right now I am loving my pure white sheets from California Design Den. I love them so much I even included them in the free Guest Room Mood Board & Shopping List that you can grab below. They have a crisp feeling to them, but are still soft and cozy. And I’ll be honest-it isn’t just my hubby and I snuggling in this bed. You can usually find my three kids cuddling with us for movie nights, and even our Labradoodle even sneaks up there every now and then.
Guest Bedroom Decor Tip #2: Make Room for Their Stuff
You know one thing about your overnight guests….they will be bringing luggage with them! If you have room, it is so nice to put a bench in the bedroom, or even a folding luggage rack like in Driven by Decor’s bedroom. No room? At the very least make some extra room in your closet, or clear out some dresser drawers. You want your holiday guests to feel comfortable in their temporary bedroom. The first thing my husband does anytime we are staying overnight somewhere is unpack. (Me? I will live out of my suitcase all week long, why unpack when you just have to pack again?!)
Guest Bedroom Decor Tip #3: Think About What You Use Every Night
Think about what YOU do right before bed.
Do you like to read? Maybe leave a stack of books or magazines on the nightstand in your Guest Bedroom.
Do you charge your phone? Consider having an extra phone charger on the nightstand. Or update your outlet to a USB charger.
Empty your pockets? Keep a small tray on your nightstand. Your guests can corral their keys, loose change, wallet, or phone.
I know when I’m staying at someone else’s home, I don’t always know where to keep my “essentials”. Think one step ahead for your guests and give them a built-in spot. This can be a free update-just use something you already have around the house. A small tray, bowl, or basket will work.
Guest Bedroom Decor Tip #4: Let There Be Light!
I’ll admit one of my pet peeves. I hate it when I’m reading in bed, starting to get sleepy, ready to drift off….then I have to get up, walk across the room, and turn off the lights! Doing something a simple as adding a table lamp on your nightstand gives your guests as easy way to read in bed. You can find a table lamp I love as part of the free Guest Bedroom design below!
Guest Bedroom Decor Tip #5: Don’t Make Them Guess
You know what every single overnight guest will ask you? What is the house Wifi password! So instead of spelling out the name of your childhood street or making them remember your mother’s maiden name…write it out for them. I love this simple printable that you can frame in your Guest Room. You can share your Wifi password AND double it up as artwork. You can even print this off from your home printer.
