A Shared Kid Room: A Vacation Home Bunkroom Design
Hi friend, I’m so glad you stopped by Postbox Designs, E-Design today! I’m Kristin-I’ve been an Interior Designer for about 14 years now and doing exclusively Online Interior Design for nearly five years now! While every week you will find me sharing custom designs I created for my Online Interior Design clients, I get extra excited on weeks like today. Because today I get to share one of my favorite type of projects with you:
A Kid Room Design
In fact, I’m sharing a shared kid Bunkroom design today! How fun is that? One of my wonderful clients was in the middle of building their dream Vacation Home in the mountains and reached out to help her finish off all five of her bedrooms. In fact if you missed it, a few weeks ago I shared her four other Bedroom designs here:

Rustic Kid’s Bunkroom Design
And today I’m sharing the final bedroom design I created for my client. And it is the one I am most excited about-this is where her kids and their cousins will have epic sleepovers when they stay at their new Vacation Home. And because it is in the mountains, I wanted to create a rustic, cozy feeling for this kid Bunkroom design.
How to Create a Bunkroom Design for your Home
Whenever I am designing a kid Bunkroom design or Vacation Home, I want to try to fit in as many beds as possible. My clients already decided they wanted two sets of bunkbeds with a trundle underneath (which can sleep six, plus there is plenty of floor space for extra sleeping bags). These rustic bunk beds are from Pottery Barn kids, and you can get a pull-out trundle option as well.
Organic white sheets from Target (#13) and Pottery Barn quilts (#8) will be on the exact same on each bed. I think keeping the same bedding on all of the beds will keep a cohesive look to the space-and this bedding works for boys and girls alike. We finished off each bed with these adorable Crate and Kids “Wanderer” pillows (#9).
Similar to this inspirational image (#1), this Pottery Barn Kids campaign dresser (#3) provides plenty of clothes storage and gives a place for this Target gray table lamps (#7).
Kid Bunkroom Design: The Seating Area
My client also requested a sofa area where the kids could hang out and talk or watch a movie (brilliant, right?). This PB Teen sectional sofa (#6) can convert into different configurations, and you can add additional components to it. Then I loaded it up with neutral, rustic (but also playful) pillow (#10, 11, and #12). For additional seating, these faux fur Pottery Barn Kids bean bags (#5) give a cozy spot to read a book. Plus the cover comes off (and is machine washable), so it will be easy to keep clean.
The Bunkroom Artwork
I wanted this room to be really fun and friendly since it will be for the kiddos. Plus, this Bunkroom design needed to work for all ages and boys and girls alike. So I found this Etsy animal prints (#4, 15-17) to hang on the wall. These are all by the same artist, so it creates a pull-together look. And this bison print (#14) can be hung over the dresser. Finally cozy rugs (#19 and #20) give a warm, rustic feel to the room.
