4 Different Neutral Bedroom Design Makeovers
Hi friend, so glad you stopped by Postbox Designs, E-Design. If you are new around here, I’m Kristin-Mama to 3, and a carb addict who tries to balance it out with yoga and running around with my kiddos. And when I’m not with the my kids, I’m designing custom rooms for my clients all over the nation. With E-Design, my clients get to work with me on THEIR schedule and budget. It is seriously so much fun.
And I was thrilled to work on this project because it was for one of my fabulous past clients. I had helped her design her Playroom and girl’s Bedroom. So when she reached out for help with their new vacation house, I was in! The home is still in the process of being built, so she wanted help with her design now, so she would have her whole Master Plan when it was time to start purchasing furniture. Smart, right?

I am splitting her project over several different blog posts, but today I want to show you four of the bedroom designs. I hope it can give you some inspiration for your own home and get some ideas. Or, if this makes you realize you need some pro help with your home, I would love to work with you! P.S. You can check out How It Works and see all of my Room Packages & Pricing.
Neutral Bedroom Design #1: The Master Bedroom
Since all of these bedrooms are in the same home, we wanted to keep a consistent, cohesive feel in all of the rooms. So each bedroom design has a rustic, neutral look with luxurious materials (hello Belgium linen sheets!), with a tan, white, gray, and blue color palette.
In the Master Bedroom we started off using this King sized upholstered headboard and rustic wood and metal furniture. Then we layered on ulta luxe Belgium linen sheets from Pottery Barn, and layers of neutral bedding with a down filled comforter and blue-gray quilt. Then we added neutral throw pillows with some subtle patterns. These pillows are from Etsy and Pottery Barn.
Bedroom Decor Accents
But it is all of the little touches that bring a bedroom to life! I used this inspirational photo (#18) as an example of how to style my client’s nightstands. Using lamps (#23), Crate and Barrel vases (#16 and 19) and this Magnolia vase (#17). If you scroll down in this blog post, I’m sharing my tips for decorating a Guest Bedroom or Vacation Home bedroom, so there are actually reasons why I selected these decor items (like Items #21 and #22)!
Neutral Bedroom Design #2: A Guest Bedroom
Just like in the above Master Bedroom, this next Guest Bedroom design has a similar color palette, but with its own personality and vibe to it.
7 Tips for Decorating a Guest Bedroom or Vacation Home Bedroom
While this large vacation home will mostly function for my client and her family, they are also planning on renting it out on occasion. So I wanted to make sure the items I chose for her would also work for all of her guests as well:
1.Use Duvet Covers. I love using duvet covers because you can take them off and wash them. I have found washing a comforter can be cumbersome, and most washing machines can’t fit a King sized comforter. I also have found that storing duvet covers are much easier (and save on space) than storing large comforters.
2.Buy two of everything. Whether you are washing your bedding, quickly swapping them out for a rental home turnover, or something gets stained…I always recommend buying two identical sets of bedding.
3. Use Pillow Covers. For the same reason as the duvet covers, you can take off pillow covers and wash them (or swap them out for a different look in the future). Invest in good quality inserts-I love the ones from Pottery Barn and West Elm personally.
4. Use down alternative. If you have guests or are renting out your home, you don’t know people’s allergies. So I recommend doing down alternative products so it will work for everyone!
5. Add an alarm clock. Yes, most people use their cell phones. But when people are traveling, it is nice to add that extra comfort.
6. Add in plenty of books. Not only are they a great way to style your nightstands, but I love including books of the local area for my guests. They probably aren’t familiar with the area, so it is a fun way to help them get familiar with the town.
7. Provide a lot of bedding options: extra quilts and blankets can make all of the difference for a guest at night.
Neutral Bedroom Design #3: Another Guest Bedroom Design
With this Guest Bedroom design, we are using lighter furniture, but with a rustic look. And in this bedroom, we layered on soft gray Pottery Barn bedding and a single, extra long lumber pillow (#7). In this bedroom, there was a window seat, so I found some additional neutral pillows (#12 and #13) to make that area extra cozy.
On the nightstands, we used these rustic mercury lamps (#4) and a small alarm clock (#14). Because these nightstands are on the small side, I wanted to leave plenty of open space for the guests to put their items.
And even artwork can tie into the local vibe of your home-this extra large print (#6) is from an Etsy shop. The artist will do a custom sketch of any town skyline, so I recommended having their vacation home’s town drawn and framed to go above the bed. More Etsy prints (#11) show nature from the local mountain surroundings.
Neutral Bedroom Design #4: The “Junior Master” Bedroom
In this final Guest Bedroom, my client dubbed this the “Junior Master”, with another King sized bed and extra floor plan space. Just like all of our other bedrooms, we kept a tan, gray, white, and blue color palette in this space.
To keep with the feel of this mountain Vacation Home, I found some colorful fly fishing prints from Etsy (#12) to hang over the nightstands-which is one of the favorite local activities in the area. And we kept neutral, but luxurious bedding in this Guest Bedroom as well with layers of Pottery Barn bedding and soft sheets and a Target throw for the end of the bed. It is always nice to give your guests the chance to add more or less bedding, depending on their sleeping preferences.
