Struggling With An Open Floor Plan Living Room Design?
Hello! If you are new here, welcome to Postbox Designs, Interior E-Design and around here we are all about “Real Designs for Real Life”. Which means if you live in the “real” life more than the “Insta-perfect” life…we are going to be friends! As a Mom, I always put function right in there with the beauty of design. And today we are going to talk about a tricky issue…the open floor plan Living Room.
Open Floor Plan Living Room
I loved working with this sweetheart of a client. And one of the last rooms we tackled on her whole house design was her open floor plan Living Room & Dining Room & Foyer. While I love the spaciousness of such a floor plan, you really do have to plan all of your spaces at once…because you can see them all at once!
So we started with her Living Room-we wanted a neutral cozy spot that could hold up to their young son. Plus it is the first thing you see when you walk into the home, so it had to be pretty too!
We started with this cozy Pottery Barn sectional sofa (#2) and layered it on with neutral textures and patterns, all from Etsy (#15-20). And to pull in all of these beautiful patterns, the whole Living Room is pulled together by this stunning Studio McGee rug (#14).
My client already had a coffee table she loved, but we gave it new life with a series of these coffee table decor items (#8-11).
A Bonus Points Request for the Husband
My client loves her hubby so she shared that he had one request…a recliner in the space. And we both cringed and laughed a little, as I swore I would find her a pretty one that they both loved. And I think this modern leather recliner (#7) fits the bill!
Open Floor Plan Dining Room
And just a stone throw’s away from this Living Room is the adjacent Dining Room, so we knew both rooms had to flow into each other. I fell in love with this Burke Decor modern black oak buffet (#4) with a bright pop of color in this oversized art print (#2). A modern West Elm dining set (#3) keeps things light and airy in the small Dining Room footprint. Items #6-10 are items for styling the top of her buffet, to bring in all of the final details. Her Design Package includes a clickable Shopping List with directions and diagrams of where to put everything (not shown). Kind of like a paint-by-numbers ideas!
