A Bonus Room Design for the Girls
Today is one for the girls. As in, a Girls Playroom Design. And even better, this Bonus Room is for a set of sisters, with this great playroom/hangout/homework/movie watching space right outside their bedrooms. So when this Mama asked for help decorating this new room, let’s just say I was all over it!
And if this is your first time here, I’m Kristin. Mom to 3, Interior Designer, Rice Krispie lover, and since I am a busy Mom too, I’m all about making your life easier by designing rooms all over the country via Interior E-Design! I design your whole room top-to-bottom and send all of the drawings, floor plans, and step-by-step instructions right to your inbox, so you can order your entire room in an hour. Over a cup of coffee, in your PJs.
You can see How E-Design Works and all of the details!
Girls Bonus Room: Part I-The Hang Out Area
A main part of this bonus room is going to be their hang out spot: watching movies with friends, snuggling on the sofa with a good book, or even just late night chats with their girlfriends during a sleepover. My client already had this modern gray sectional sofa, and I peppered with a handful of fun, brightly patterned pillows that are teen-girl all the way! And I thought it was really important to have a huge, oversized coffee table, such as this one from Room & Board, so they could literally play a board game or do a puzzle if they want on the space.
I was smitten with these cozy shearling swivel chairs for extra seating (can I get a pair as a grown up too?!) and these cozy poufs will give even more options when friends are over!
Plus: Bow shaped pillows. Acrylic side tables. Pineapple throw pillows. Bull dog lamps. Does it get any better?
Girl Coffee Table Decor
I wanted to have some fun decorating their coffee table so I made these suggestions:
An oversized bowl (#8) and fill with something fun like scrabble letters, legos, or puzzle pieces for an on-going puzzle with image #9 as an inspo
These fun coffee table books (#12 and #13) on subjects they love
A wood link set (#16) and faux plant (#17) round things out!
Girls Bonus Room: Part II-The Artwork
And this is the dreamiest part of working on any kid space-getting to source fun & funny artwork. With kids you can go bright, bold and fun-the sky is the limit! I loved these sweet and cheeky prints, and even this Pottery Barn Kids set of acrylic circles (#4). You hang them on the wall and fill with toys or fun items. I’m in love.
Girls Bonus Room Part III: The Desk Area
A big part of this Bonus Room area was a study spot for the girls. Because I had a sister growing up and sharing a desk would NOT have jived…I created a homework station with an individual desk for each. I created an entire Elevation with step-by-step instructions for how to style their desks but I had way too much fun choosing all these fun & functional items for their desk area.
Girls Bonus Room Desk Tip: I have found the best kid desks have a long work surface and tons of small drawers for storage, like these Ikea pieces. I love adding a shelf above for knick knacks and giving them a chance to make their space their own.
So there you go! A shared Girls Bonus Room area for two sisters-I hope this gives them an amazing place to chill, invite friends over, and even on occasion share fun sister memories together!
