A Girl Nursery Decor Makeover Reveal…with a Twist
Traditional Girl Nursery Decor
I recently had a New Jersey Mama contact me with a pretty common request. This Mom (who has fabulous taste!) already had the main furniture pieces to her daughter’s nursery. She already had the crib, changing table, and glider. While she had the furniture pieces, she knew the room wasn’t finished. She wanted a polished, elegant look…but needed some help pulling it all together.
And does this ALSO sound familiar? This is a working Mom who knew what she liked, but honestly didn’t have the time to time to scroll for hours online to find the right items, or to run all over town shopping for her daughter’s room. Instead, she hired me.
And because she already had the main pieces, we decided to work together By-the-Hour. This type of Room Package is perfect for this exact type of situation:
A room that has all of the main furniture, but just needs those “finishing” touches to make it perfect.
How to Finish off a Nursery Decor
So if this Mom had all of the main furniture pieces, what did she hire me to do? In just 3 hours, I found artwork, lighting, curtains, rug, lamps, dresser decor, pillows, and small furniture items like a small side table. These were the pieces to really make this sweet girl nursery really feel finished.
I created this Mood Board with all of the items pulled together so she could visualize her daughter’s new nursery design. Then I also created a custom Shopping List with the prices, descriptions, and what sizes to order. Also included were instructions and steps for pulling everything together-including where to hang each item and how to arrange everything.
3 Hours of Design….Girl Nursery Decor Reveal
And here is the finished look to this sweet little girl’s Nursery Makeover! I always ask my clients about their budget. And I agreed with this Mom, since it was a child’s bedroom, we went with a “Silver Budget” that includes stores such as Target and Overstock when I’m searching for the perfect item. I try not to make kid’s rooms too “precious” or filled with expensive items-you want kids to be able to fully use and enjoy the space. And that usually comes will spills, crayon marks, and Cheerios!
Girl Nursery Artwork
This trio of prints are inexpensive digital downloads from Etsy, that this Mom could customize to her daughter’s initials. To make this frames look more expensive…simple white mattes in these large 24″x36″ frames bring a more custom look. And these traditional floral patterns bring in a pop of pink and gold into the bedroom.
This Serena and Lily capiz chandelier is elegant and will last this little girl into her teen years:
Girl Nursery Seating Area & Play Area
One of my favorite pieces though is this soft pink area rug with medallion design. While the existing hardwood floors are beautiful, this Mom wanted a soft place where her daughter could play.
Mom already had this neutral glider, but we added a pop of color with this soft floral pillow-just another accent to help finish off the space. The only piece of furniture I added to this room was a Target gray “campaign style” side table. From having three babies of my own, I know how important it is to have a nearby table to place things when you have a sleeping baby in your arms. You don’t want to stand up (and wake up that sleeping baby) for anything!
Nursery Curtains
The nursery already had simple blinds, but we fancied up these windows with Target faux silk curtains in this deep gray.
Nursery Dresser Styling Ideas
My client already had this white dresser for her daughter’s nursery, but wanted some ideas of how to style it. I suggested this ornate (but budget friendly mirror) from Overstock, to be centered over the dresser. And flanked on either side are these Lamps Plus gold sconces. We used hard-wired sconces, but if you didn’t want to use an electrician, you could easily swap these out to a plug-in style.
Then we used some simple sweet artwork like this Etsy unicorn print and a set of Target pale pink lamps. In the mirror’s reflection you can see the third set of artwork I found for this nursery design. This set of two pink watercolor hearts (also from Etsy) fill up a blank wall and keep some sweetness to the space.
We used a simple white and gold tray for this vase, but you could also use a tray to corral items on top of the dresser. When my kids were little, I kept out a small basket of items I used multiple times a day (diaper creams, burp clothes, etc) so they were easily accessible.
Finishing Off a Girl Bedroom Decor with Accessories
Want to see another Girl Bedroom Makeover? Similar to this nursery, this tween girl Shared Bedroom had all of the main pieces of furniture (their beds and dresser), but they needed a whole new look for their bedroom with accessories, bedding, and wall art!
