Farmhouse Family Room + Home Office Design
Hi Friend, welcome to Postbox Designs, Interior E-Design. I’m Kristin: a busy Mama of 3 kids, and about six years ago my kid’s schedule was NOT jiving with my work schedule. So I spent a long time pondering “how can I keep doing what I love (designing people’s rooms) while still being able to fit my job around my kid’s schedules?” And I realized there are so many other busy women out there, juggling home, work, families, and more. And that I could save them tons of time and money by working VIRTUALLY with them to design their rooms! Instead of spending hours driving around town together to choose their items, I do everything online. And after custom designing my client’s rooms, I send them their designs, floor plan, shopping lists, step-by-step instructions and more!
And today I want to share with you a recent Interior E-Design project with you. My client had a room that served as a Family Room and Home Office. She wanted a cozy, Farmhouse look for her space and reached out to me for help finishing off her room! Want to take a look around with me?
Farmhouse Family Room Design
I started off her design with this Pottery Barn sofa (#2) and layered it with these neutral patterned pillows (#11, 12, 13, and 7). Two cream wingback chairs will sit across from her sofa with this rustic wood side table (Alternative #1) in between. On either side of the sofa, I chose this wood and black side table (#15) to pull in some pops of black into the space, and added a soft gray table lamp (#4) to the top of each one. To add some neutral artwork into the space, I suggested a series of three botanical prints to be centered over her sofa (Alternative #5). My client already had a rug she loved (#10), so we kept that, and I loved the cozy colors it brought into the space.
Farmhouse Family Room Foyer
My client’s space didn’t have a dedicated foyer, so we created one ourselves. We started with this industrial foyer table (#18), added metal lanterns (#25), a round mirror (#23), and a framed farmhouse print (#24) to the top of the table. My client can also add baskets for extra storage on the bottom shelves.
Farmhouse Home Office
On the back wall of her Family Room, my client wanted to add her Home Office. She had already purchased this Pottery Barn desk (#17), but needed help with everything else. She had some specific storage requests (including room for her printer and filing cabinets). I found these coordinating Pottery Barn bookcases with file cabinet storage (#20) and suggested putting one on either side of her desk. My client actually found this great desk chair (#19) to go with it. A farmhouse custom sign (#27) can float over the desk for some simple artwork. I suggested using these inexpensive white Target vases (#21) to decorate the top shelves of her bookcases, while using the rest of the shelves for her Home Office storage needs.
I also always try to add extra items, on an Alternatives Mood Board, so that my clients get some bonus “extra” ideas for their space! I added some extra artwork, table, sofa, and chair ideas for her here:
Family Room Floor Plan
I always include a Floor Plan with notes for my client as well. In this case, I actually suggested to totally flip her seating arrangement. Her existing Family Room had the sofa in front of the window. I thought it would look better to turn everything at a 90 degree angle so that her sofa now takes up the large blank wall. Now her two chairs are floating into the room. Sometimes just changing your furniture items around can make a huge difference! Her Home Office furniture will be the star of the show on the back wall of the room now.
Bringing a Farmhouse Family Room and Home Office To Life
I offer several different Room Packages at different price points. My client chose the Full Design Package that includes a 3D rendering. I love creating these for my clients because I can place their exact items into their room, so they can see exactly what their room will look like…before buying a single item!
A big old THANK-YOU to my client, for allowing me to share their design with you guys! If you love this comfy cozy Farmhouse look, here are a few more Room Designs I think you will love!
