Little Girl Bedroom Makeover: Pretty In Pastels
Let’s talk Girl Bedroom Makeover, aka cuteness overload. But before we start…
Hi there! Welcome to Postbox Designs Interior E-Design where around here we are all about Real Designs for Real Life! As a Mama of 3 myself, I always do a little happy dance when parents reach out to me asking for help with their kid’s spaces. This Mom was a dream to work with-I was able to partner with her to design all three of her kid’s bedrooms as well as their Bonus Room space. And since her kids are the exact same ages as mine, I felt especially invested! So stay tuned for more of these reveals, but to start the party, I’m sharing her youngest daughter’s bedroom design: all girly girl, and tons of fun.
In fact, that is the exact reason I started Postbox Designs Kids so feel free to check that out if you have a little one in your life!
Girl Bedroom Makeover Tip 1: Start with a Theme
I know-I can feel a little overwhelming when you are starting with a design on any room, but I truly think kid rooms are a little easier because you can have fun with it and throw some caution to the wind. A great place to start when you are thinking of any room design: what is going to be the theme? It can be a hobby, a color, a sport…anything! I would caution you, not to go too overboard with any theme (since kid’s interests change in a heartbeat) but to take the theme loosely and sprinkle in the concept throughout. If you can’t think of a room theme design, try a color palette like we did with this sweet little girl bedroom makeover.
I started with a theme of pink, gold, and aqua, which Mom said were her favorite colors. I like to go a bit more neutral on big pieces of furniture (like the dresser or side table) but it is a great place to use the color palette in artwork and bedding. It is fairly easy and inexpensive to switch out in the future.
Girl Bedroom Makeover Tip 2: Add at least one fun area
This was one easy and she requested a special reading nook (a girl after my own heart!). I used this sweet canopy style tent, fuzzy rug, and tons of cute throw pillows to create a cozy little spot all her own. Remember those reading pillows from the 80s (I totally rocked one!), Target has a selection of uber cute fuzzy ones that bring it to the new decade. I know my daughters would never leave this spot if it was in their bedroom!
Girl Bedroom Makeover Tip 3: Have fun with the artwork
If you hung out here for awhile, I say it all the time-artwork is your BFF! I love using Etsy to purchase digital files and then you can print them in any size. It is easy, inexpensive and adds so much adorable interest to any kid room design. You can search by theme or just explore-with this girl bedroom makeover I did a mix of pastel artwork with girl power themes. To keep things easy, I usually suggest buying several of the same frames to keep it looking consistent.
Girl Bedroom Makeover Tip #4: Just Have Fun With it
I mean come on…when else can you use polka dots, sequins, and glitter with abandon?! It was fun to just sprinkle in some truly girly-girl little pieces for her bedside table and to help style some existing shelves she has. Same with the bedding…velvet, antelope print, and pompoms all made their way in. A girl bedroom should be fun and sweet with some whimsy in it.
And with all of my kid bedroom makeovers, I try to do a mix of good quality, investment pieces for big items such as furniture, mixed in with budget friendly decor items. You don’t want to cry when something gets ruined…a kid is a kid after all, and their room should be a place where they can fully embrace it all.
